I. General Summary:
Responsible for assisting with all Packaging and Logistics functions of the Production Control department. Ensure customer requirements and manufacturing needs are met through Toyota Production System philosophy. Direct Team Leaders and Team Members in the execution of responsibilities. Responsible to accomplish goals and targets in accordance with company policies and standards for safety, quality, customer satisfaction, accuracy, cost reduction, housekeeping, training, team work and morale.
II. Essential Job Functions:
PACKAGING
A. Communicate and coordinate packaging changes between ordering group and suppliers.
B. Create and manage packaging development schedule
C. Procurement of packaging to ensure launch readiness
D. Lead cross functional packaging review
E. Obtain correct PPF’s from suppliers for all existing and new programs.
F. Evaluate all PPF’s for cube efficiency to maximize utilization of containers.
G. Design and evaluate all packaging design to insure quality part delivery in a safe manner.
H. Calculate appropriate quantity of packaging for each part at beginning of program and throughout life of program as changes occur.(ie. delivery frequency, quantity per container, etc..)
I. Coordinate and conduct container audits to verify appropriate level of packaging for each part between supplier and plant.
J. Periodic audit of supplier packaging used compared to PPF’s for each part.
K. Audit empty container returns to insure process is in place to return containers to the correct supplier.
L. Coordinate design and procurement of customer packaging with customer.
M. Maintain packaging information in sedai file to ensure data matches actual packaging from customer.
N. Audit supplier packaging in plant to recommend and implement kaizen ideas.
O. Provide expected packaging expenses for new and existing programs for budget process.

LOGISTICS
P. Understand plant constraints in order to provide information to 3PL for logistics design (space, frequency, internal parts flow, dock schedule, etc..)
Q. Evaluate that logistics designs from 3PL meet plant requirements.(Cost, efficiency, dock schedule, etc…)
R. Participate in weekly logistics kaizen meetings recommending changes to improve efficiency.
S. Coordinate delivery frequency changes with ordering group and suppliers.
T. Maintain list of supplier available hours for loading of freight and confirm window times for loading.
U. Conduct periodic audits of planned versus actual cube percentage of deliveries. Identify any supplier stacking issues negatively impacting efficiency.
V. Conduct a weekly audit of trailers in yard and investigate reasons for trailers not turning over.
W. Coordinate any information needed to support a transportation claim and send to 3PL.
X. Maintain logistics information in sedai file matches current logistics plan.
Y. Support ordering group for any logistics issues that will impact production.
Z. Support annual budget process for logistics costs. Review monthly logistics expense for accuracy and track expedite costs.

III. Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:

Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Supply Chain Management or related field required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in packaging and/or logistics fields preferred.
  • Automotive environment preferred.
  • Experience with Toyota launch systems and requirements preferred.
  • Previous exposure to a multicultural office environment preferred.
Personal/Technical Skills:
  • Basic shop math ability required (i.e., addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
  • Understanding of conceptual math (i.e., basic geometry, charts and graphs) required.
  • Understanding of elementary statistical concepts (i.e., standard deviation, variance, etc.).
  • Thorough understanding and working knowledge of automotive plants and processes, company products, trade terminology, quality management and control systems and techniques, manufacturing processes, tooling and equipment, and machine operation.
  • Ability to design and evaluate design of packaging to protect various part characteristics to ensure quality delivery of parts in the most efficient manner from supplier to production line.
  • Understand various modes of transportation and their benefits.
  • General understanding of Toyota Production System (TPS) is preferred.
  • Good understanding of seat, welding, door, carpet, and headliner processes are a plus.
  • Effective time management skills.

  • Must be able to work a fixed or rotating shift schedule, including daily or weekend overtime.

Language Skills:
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
Computer/Software:
  • Solid working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office and other computer-based applications (e.g., MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, Outlook, Internet, etc.).
  • Experience with MRP and EDI systems.

IV. Work Environment/Conditions:

Office: Open Office Environment, moderate noise level.
Plant: Standard automotive plant environment with moderate noise level. PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) such as safety glasses, steel toe shoes, hearing protection, etc. may be required in engineering, manufacturing, or industrial areas. Personal attire standards may apply.

Travel: Must be willing to travel up to 20% of the time

V. Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the team member is required to talk, see, and hear. The team member must be capable of walking, sitting, and standing and is occasionally required to lift up to 30 pounds.
