Description

Provides leadership, supervision, and quality control of the program, its staff and the participants. This is a temporary position during the summer months, working with children 13 – 15 years of age. Plans, implements, and delivers educational and job-related skills in both the classroom setting and on-the-job work experience. Reports to the Manager I and is responsible for the day-to-day operations, administrative duties, supervision and safety of all staff and participants in the program

  • Plans, implements, and coordinates job skills workshops/programs and secures job site locations for participants.
  • Manages day-to-day operations, administrative duties, and supervision of small staff.
  • Participates in classroom activities and assists job site locations when needed.
  • Oversees all program activities to ensure appropriate Work Site Supervisor coverage.
  • Monitors the safety and well-being of participants and staff.
  • Plans, coordinates, and secures sponsorships for the end-of-the-program banquet.
  • Communicates with parents/guardians regarding programs, events, and/or participants.
  • Represents the City in a professional manner, this includes onsite and off-site behavior and work spaces.
  • Enforces program rules with diplomacy.
  • Maintains documentation i.e. communication log, attendance sheets, incident/ accident reports, emergency contact information, etc.
  • Exercises effective leadership techniques and communication skills when interacting with participants, parents and staff.
  • Communicates updates to Parks & Recreation Manager I, Assistant Program Coordinator and Work Site Supervisors.
  • Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field and at least two (2) years of prior experience working with children ages 13 – 15; or an equivalent combination of training and experience that provide the required knowledge, skill, and abilities.
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Must have valid Florida Driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
  • First Aid and CPR Certification is mandatory and must be current throughout summer camp.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience with leadership/programming in educational environment.
  • Ability to manage individual and group behavior in various settings.
  • Knowledge and ability to apply leadership and behavior-management techniques effectively.
  • Ability to work with children of ages 13 – 15, by demonstrating patience, enthusiasm, and the ability to handle disruptive children effectively.
  • Ability to lead and supervise others.
  • Ability to serve as a positive role model, including attitude, punctuality, treating others with respect, etc.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, parents/guardians, potential job site locations and business owners.

Physical Demands

  • Hearing, mental acuity, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, talking, visual acuity, walking and use of hands.
  • May be required to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
  • Safe and secure work environment that may periodically have unpredicted requirements or demands.

Conditions of Employment

  • Background check including (finger printing) is required; all finger prints will be checked through State of Florida’s Volunteer and Employee Criminal History System (VECHS) and the Department of Children and Families (DCF).
  • Must be available to work for the entire program.
  • Work shifts vary from 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
  • Temporary position, with no employee benefits or paid time off.
