The UF Office of Academic Support (OAS) seeks a highly motivated individual to serve as an Academic Success Coach (ASC) for the UF PROMISE Program. OAS offers students the guidance and assistance necessary to achieve their academic goals. In addition, we provide academic support services, including tutoring, coaching, and success workshops to aid student transition, retention, and degree completion.

The ASC position will work primarily as an Academic Success Coach and serve as part of the OAS team to facilitate student success. ASCs assist students with academic planning, interventions, goal-setting, and overcoming academic challenges and other barriers that interfere with their progress toward graduation. In addition, the position facilitates student engagement and helps them successfully navigate college life. This position can provide the opportunity to experience event planning, program assessment, wellness coaching, and graduate school preparations.

The duties will include:

  • Using a case management approach for one-on-one and small group coaching sessions
  • Coordinating support services and programs that include, but are not limited to, academic interventions, workshops, and providing academic guidance
  • Monitoring and tracking student academic progress, documenting and reporting student contact, and maintaining student data using Blumen, salesforce, and other appropriate software/databases
  • Building a rapport with students to create a safe, positive, and inclusive environment to facilitate student engagement
  • Serving as a resource for OAS-affiliated undergraduate scholars, or making referrals, fostering comprehensive support
  • Maintaining consistent communication and regular follow-up with students
  • Promoting OAS programs and services to our UF undergraduates
  • Assisting with teaching UF first-year seminars and in the preparation of academic enrichment workshops (AEW).
  • Assists in the training and leadership development of OAS peer staff
  • Performing other duties as assigned that promote OAS programs

Expected Salary:

$18.00 - $25.00 per hour; commensurate with education and experience.



Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree or higher in education, student affairs, counseling, or a related field.



Preferred Qualifications:
  • The ideal candidate is a graduate student or recent graduate
  • Mentoring or coaching experience in higher education
  • Experience working with a diverse student population, including first-generation, limited-income, or underrepresented students or students with disabilities
  • Ability to utilize concepts/theories on student development in the practice of providing student support services, coaching, advising and student retention.
  • Good organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong computer skills, including the ability to learn and utilize student database software
  • High level of commitment to student success programs and initiatives
  • Graduate student or a degree in higher education administration or counseling
  • At least one year of experience working in academic or student affairs
  • Moderately familiar with student development theory
