Job Description Summary

The Manufacturing Engineer shall be committed to meeting and exceeding Air Lift Company quality standards for production quality, cost and timing as established by internal and external customer requirements. This position has responsibility for production department manufacturing processes, selecting, and implementing machines and manufacturing equipment. The ME shall be committed to continuously improving the manufacturing processes/product by gaining and reacting to process feedback.

Essential Duties

Essential results-based duties


  • Designing and maintaining robust manufacturing processes that are statistically in control and capable. Key elements are:
    • Responsible for the creation of manufacturing processes that support Air Lift product and customer requirements by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment; conferring with equipment vendors.
    • Creating Work Instructions and ensuring that production personnel are trained adequately.
    • Ensuring that process controls are in place and sustained per Control Plans.
    • Ensuring that all production processes meet established requirements through validation.
    • Ensuring that labor standards are accurately stated in the BOM.
  • Participate in APQP with responsibilities to own and execute the Production Process Design and Development process. Key elements are:
    • Own and execute the Production Process Design & Development and ensure that this sub-process begins concurrently with the product design sub-process.
    • Own and execute the Trial Build sub-processes and ensure that reports from these are distributed to the APQP team.
    • Meeting Gantt chart timing requirements for completion of tasks.
    • Communicating potential problems to the APQP team.
    • Ensures that the appropriate core tools and work instructions are utilized for these sub-processes and the appropriate people are trained and that they are being developed utilizing cross-functional teams.
    • Provides design support by joining cross functional teams as required within other sub-processes.
  • Participate with Engineering & Operations Change Requests as the Production Department Representative.
    • Evaluates & communicates if production can produce parts that meet agreed engineering change requirements.
    • Evaluates & communicates product change effects on tooling, labor and documentation.
  • Manage Equipment
    • Keeps equipment operational by coordinating maintenance and repair services; following manufacturer's instructions and established procedures; requesting special service.
    • Report established metrics for maintenance and downtime and create and execute plans for correction and improvements.
    • Maintenance/Fixing of existing controls/testers/fixtures/tools
    • Electronic Leak Testers and associated fixtures
    • Software programming - we still get called out to support misc. builds utilizing various programmers
  • Continuous improvement program for production processes.
    • Evaluates manufacturing processes by designing and conducting research programs; applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; conferring with equipment vendors; soliciting observations from operators.
    • Improves manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout.
    • OEE (overall operational efficiency) Initiatives.
  • Corrective Action Reporting.
    • Participate in the established CAR system that manages systemic failures within operations.
  • Air Lift Quality Management System.
    • Maintains product and process conformity by creating procedures, work instructions and forms within a formal quality system.
  • Safety and Regulatory.
    • Maintains process and company reputation by complying with government regulations and established safety programs.


Position Requirements:

  • Must possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Experience in statistical analysis, project management, and report generating
  • Must possess a high mechanical aptitude and business acumen
  • Must be capable of working on multiple projects at one time
  • Good time management and organization skills


Minimum and Preferred Qualifications:

  • BS in a related engineering field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent field.
