Old Sturbridge Academy Charter Public School is seeking an energetic and adaptable Food Service Assistant to work with our Food Service Lead serving breakfast and lunch to our K-8 population. The successful candidate must share OSACPSs mission and EL Education philosophy, which will provide K-8 students with rigorous, real-world learning experiences in a supportive and nurturing school community, helping all students to become reflective inquisitors, articulate communicators, critical thinkers, and skilled problem solvers. Successful candidates should have a collaborative spirit of we are crew, not passengers.The Food Service Assistant will report to the Nutrition Director. This person will assist in all food preparation, food distribution/delivery, food inventory, and serving food to students.

This candidate will need to have knowledge of general operation of basic cafeteria equipment and follow all State Health Requirements for food service workers. Must be able to properly communicate with the schools population. This position is a full-time, hourly position; the hours for this position will be every school day from 6:00 a.m. 2:30 p.m.

Old Sturbridge Academy Charter Public School, an EL Education (formerly known as Expeditionary Learning) school working in partnership with Old Sturbridge Village, will foster a learning environment that represents all aspects of the diversity spectrum where our students will meet or exceed grade-level expectations in all subject areas.About the SchoolOld Sturbridge Academy Charter Public School opened in 2017 and will serve 320 students in grades kindergarten through seventh during the 2021-2022 school year. There are 40 students in each grade level.

We are chartered K-8 and will have a maximum enrollment of 360 students-each year we add a grade until we reach eighth grade. We believe in hands-on learning that focuses on three levels of student achievement: mastery of knowledge and skills, character, and high-quality work. Our schools habits of character, which define our culture, are courage, collaboration, stewardship, perseverance, and high-quality work.Responsibilities: Food preparation and distribution Prepare, cook and bake a variety of foods in large batches according to USDA standardized recipesManaging food allergiesHeavy lifting required (milk crates; food containers; etc) up to 50 pounds Assist with inventory of food, supplies, other itemsBasic knowledge of production recordsOrganizing supplies, food items, paper goodsRotate supplies; check dates; etc.Maintaining a clean and sanitary work environmentCleaning equipment and workstationsAll other duties as assignedQualifications: Must be 18 years of age or older1 year or more of food handling experience requiredPrior experience in a school food service role a plusMust be available every school day between 7:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
