Position Summary

The Connecting Minority Communities Grant Project Director manages all parts of the NTIA Connecting Minority Communities Grant which funds 1) the expansion and stabilization of the College’s broadband service, 2) the implementation of a virtual desktop infrastructure, 3) the overhaul of broadband and technology infrastructure at the MAP Center, and 4) training opportunities for IT staff and CIS students. Duties will entail procuring equipment and supplies, coordinating program activity execution, managing the budget, monitoring and documenting progress, resolving problems, and handling reporting to the NTIA. The position reports to the Director of Information Technology and maintains a close relationship with the Dean of Community Engagement and Grants. This is a temporary, two-year position funded by the Connecting Minority Communities Grant. This position is not eligible for Non-Probationary Status.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage all project activities for the NTIA Connecting Minority Communities Grant.
  • Maintain up-to-date records of all expenditures and obligations charged to the activity budget.
  • Submit timely progress reports to the Director of Information Technology and the Dean of Community Engagement and Grants.
  • Maintain up-to-date records of all programmatic operations related to the grant.
  • Maintain up-to-date inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Work closely with the Director of Information Technology and the Dean of Community Engagement and Grants on budget revisions, program amendments, contractual arrangements, and necessary correspondence and reports to the funding agency.
  • Write and submit all necessary correspondence and reports to the funding agency.
  • Work closely with the Business Office on grant expenditures, drawdowns, and reconciliations related to the grant.
  • Conduct monthly progress meetings with the Director of Information Technology, the Dean of Community Engagement and Grants, Business Office representatives, project personnel, and MAP Center representatives.
  • Provide training to IT personnel related to the implementation of the grant activities.
  • Provide assistance as needed to all project personnel.
  • Make regular visits to the College’s grant partner, MAP Center, and maintain regular communication with MAP Center personnel.
  • Follow all policies and procedures of the College, the Alabama Community College System, and the grant funding agency.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the President.

Qualifications

Minimum Required Qualifications:
  • Associate degree from a regionally accredited institution in computer science, information technology, computer information systems, or closely related field.
  • Three (3) years of full-time work experience in computer science, information technology, computer information systems, or closely-related field.
  • Documented experience in budget management.
  • Three (3) year of full-time work experience in a supervisory role in which you managed the work of others.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in computer science, information technology, computer information systems, or closely related field.
  • Experience in managing and/or administering grants.
  • Proven record of accomplishment that demonstrates initiative, creativity, managerial and interpersonal skills, preferably in a community college setting.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • Effective oral and written communications skills.
  • Ability to function in an automated work environment.
  • Ability to plan, organize, coordinate and manage complicated tasks.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and administrative computing systems.
  • Ability to communicate by using PC, telephone, and written, media.
