Job Description
This is a full time, fixed term assignment that ends on June 30th, 2023.
Responsible for providing overall leadership and management of the cleaning operations for all academic and administrative buildings, including supervising, budgeting, planning, organizing, staffing, training, evaluating, supporting events, respond to emergencies and ensuring customer satisfaction. Work closely with the Custodial Manager to prioritizing and scheduling the work of the custodial staff. Provide secondary support to campus wide events. Responsible to provide a climate conducive for staff development and support and to foster cooperative working relationships with staff and other campus departments.
Primary Position Responsibilities
  • Supervise the custodial operations for the assigned academic and administrative buildings.
  • Perform consistent inspections of custodial areas to ensure that all of the customer’s needs are met. The objective is to have a high level of consistent cleaning across campus in all buildings.
  • Submit maintenance repair requests identified through routine inspections.
  • Maintain, support and encourage open communication and respectful relationships among the college community, students, staff and guests of the college.
  • Work with the Custodial Management team to instruct and direct employees to comply with the department policies, procedures and standards of performance. Identify training needs for the custodial team.
  • Oversee the volume of work order requests assigned to your areas of responsibilities.
  • Monitor and approve time cards for payroll, supply orders and the need for new equipment. Control labor costs by effectively scheduling of employees to meet the department’s budgetary goals.

  • Customer satisfaction improvements related to building cleanliness.
  • Establish a respectable positive working relationship with the custodial staff.
  • Maintain the identified APPA Custodial Standard Cleaning Levels.
Supervisor Responsibilities
  • There will be a dedicated amount of custodians (15 -25) assigned to this position.
Education Required
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
Experience Required
  • Three to Five years of relevant experience in custodial operations and supervision.
  • Knowledge and experience in a higher education institution preferred.
  • Experience working in an union environment.
Skills and Abilities Required
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work, resolve problems and manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast paced environment.
  • Able to continuously walk the campus to perform duties (such as inspections, on site meetings, etc.).
  • Excellent communication skills including listening, verbal, written and interpersonal skills with specific attention to detail.
  • Must possess excellent customer service skills (Verbal, written, email, etc…), strong computer skills with knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office Suite and Windows.
  • Experience working in a Work Order Management system.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment and independently resolve issues and problems as they relate to the job responsibilities.
  • Demonstrate ability to work with students, student organizations, faculty and staff.
  • Work with the EH&S office to ensure that all training certifications are current such as OSHA Blood Borne Pathogen training certification.
Other
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, which includes evenings and weekends. The parameters of this coverage will be determined by the Custodial Manager and/or Director of Facilities.
  • Provide management support for large scaled/high profile events.
  • Oversee the snow removal operations for assigned areas.
  • The schedule of this position is as follows: After a Monday thru Friday training period days and hours below
    • Tuesday (6:00am to 2:00pm)
    • Wednesday (6:00am to 2:00pm)
    • Thursday (6:00am to 2:00pm)
    • Friday (6:00am to 2:00pm)
    • Saturday (7:00am to 3:00pm)
  • This position is part of a Facilities Department Management rotation for after hour calls and weekend coverage (Full time position only – not temporary assignment).
