Champlain College is looking for dynamic Area Coordinators. This live-in position has 4 main responsibilities and focuses:

  • Manage a residential area of approximately 400 students, up to 10 residential halls, and 8-16 Resident Advisors. This position oversees all residence hall activities, programs, conduct, student wellness, and supervision of residential life student staff, as well as, fosters the development of living and learning communities that enhance student engagement, diversity and inclusion, and affinity group development.
  • Participate in an emergency on-call duty rotation related to student emergencies.
  • Collaborate with a designated department in the division focused on student support, success and retention programs.
  • Support student success through direct case management of a portfolio of students.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver educational programming that supports common intellectual, personal, and group experiences for students and contributes to students' intellectual agility, student wellness, multicultural sophistication, and a global view. Collaborate with colleagues in Student Affairs and academics to ensure intentional, coordinated program development.
  • Provide outreach counseling, personal assistance, and academic advising for students in residential area(s) and who are being reviewed by the Care Team. Identify at-risk students in need of specialized intervention and make appropriate referrals in a timely manner. Follow up with welfare checks, and work in conjunction with faculty concerns.
  • Support the safety and security of assigned residential community by maintaining high visibility and developing professional relationships with residents and staff.
  • Participate in regular on-call duty rotation. Schedule duty rotations for student staff. Be extremely familiar with services offered through Campus Public Safety, Counseling, Student Health Center, Physical Plant, and Auxiliary and Event Services.
  • Supervise and lead 8-16 Resident Advisors. Conduct weekly staff meetings to provide information, guidance, and training to student staff. Conduct regular individual meetings with student staff and provide timely, ongoing feedback on performance.
  • Actively participate in student staff recruitment, selection, placement, and training.
  • Serve as a Conduct Officer for student cases utilizing resolution options that restore the residential community. Be trained by the Office of Community Standards.
  • Assist with housing operations functions including room selection, residence hall openings and closings, roster checks, roommate conflicts and resolution, and summer housing.
  • Lead one or more of the primary residential assignments, e.g. recruitment and staffing, training, student conduct, program and community development, work with special and diverse student populations, wellness, RA Council, residential education, and/or housing operations/summer housing, etc.
  • Participate in College-wide committees as assigned. Attend all college-wide events such as Admission events, Orientation, Recognition events, Town Halls, and, all Vice President retreats and in-service training sessions.


Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of professional experience in Higher Education, specifically in Residential Education or another aspect of student development.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Higher Education or related field.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrate experience, skill, and ability in leading one of the primary residential assignments, e.g. recruitment and staffing, training, student conduct, program and community development, work with special and diverse student populations, or wellness.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills especially with students, faculty, staff, and parents.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet established goals, objectives, and expectations.
  • Strong computer skills and systems knowledge, i.e. Adirondack Solutions, Maxient.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Interest in and usage of assessment tools.
  • Ability to anticipate problems and identify alternatives to solve problems with excellent solutions.
