YOUTH SPECIALIST/JUVENILE CORRECTIONAL OFFICER

Full-Time, 80 hours/bi-weekly

12 Hour Shifts, day or night shift TBD , days vary, every other weekend off

Non-exempt, Unclassified

Pay: $20.00/hr

JOB OVERVIEW: Provide security to incarcerated juvenile delinquents who are either charged or sentenced for a crime; oversee the juvenile correctional facility, maintaining order, and ensuring the well-being and safety of the inmates.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

· Process admission and release of juveniles

· Perform necessary searches, checking property and completing paperwork

· Provide first aid and administer medications according to prescribed time and dosage

· Provide adjustment and crisis counseling to juveniles

· Escort juveniles to designated activities and court hearings

· Lead recreational activities

· Discipline juveniles and recommend or initiate other measures to control behavior

· Instruct juveniles regarding desirable health and personal hygiene habits

· Perform housekeeping duties

· Ensure the safety and security of the juveniles’ daily activities and special incidents

· Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of…

· Criminal Justice system

· Court policies and procedures

Ability to…

· Read, analyze and interpret general professional journals policies, procedures, or government regulations

· Write reports and evaluate the performance of juveniles

· Effectively present information and respond to questions from juveniles, supervisors, childcare workers and the public

· Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations

· Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral or schedule form

Requirements…

· High School education or equivalent

· Valid driver’s license (or the ability to obtain one prior to employment date)

Unusual Working Conditions: May come into contact with individuals who are violent, angry and/or prone to violence.

Dress Code: All employees are expected to dress in an acceptable, professional manner, any employee who has a tattoo must make sure that the tattoo(s) is/are covered up and not visible at all times during work hours. Any visible body piercings, with the exception of professional appearing ear piercing, shall not be filled with adornments during paid work hoursin accordance with Clermont County Juvenile Court Personnel Policy and Procedures.
