Job Location: Fort Carson, CO

This Transition Education Counselor position is assigned to the Army Transition Assistance Program Center at Fort Carson, CO for the purpose of providing comprehensive educational support services to both Soldiers and Family members in order to assist Service members meet academic and career goals in accordance with the Veterans Opportunity Work Act (VOW).

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Assist transitioning Service members with education and occupational goal establishment education plan development, capability and needs assessment administration/interpretation, the school admissions and application process, and eligibility determination of veteran education benefits

· Provide Service members information about financial assistance and education benefits that include the Montgomery and Post 9/11 GI Bills, Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), scholarships, maximizing the use of veterans’ education benefits, and other applications for student and financial aid

· Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills to include captivating audiences while facilitating higher education track classes (in-person/virtual) in order to assist participants in choosing an institution of higher learning, choosing a degree plan, selecting funding options, and getting accepted into an institution of higher learning

Work Experience:

  • Possesses a minimum of one year of relevant experience
  • Be familiar with Army and Veteran’s education benefits

Job Skills:

  • Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Power Point and Database use experience

Education:

· At a minimum, candidates must possess the following: a bachelor’s degree from a college or university that is accredited by a national or regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. The degree shall include or be supplemented by at least 24 semester hours in one or a combination of the following with at least one course from either one or more fields of study: Tests and measurements; Adult Education; Educational Program Administration; Curriculum Development or Design; Teaching Methods; Guidance and Counseling; Career Planning; and/or Occupational Information.

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations:

  • A valid state driver’s license

Clearance Requirements:

· Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance (Tier 1/NACI)

· Proof of employment, background screening, and security clearance / favorable background check is required before a DoD Identification Common Access Card will be issued authorizing access to Government computer systems

Communication Skills:

  • Provide exceptional customer service—good oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and understand the English language

Travel:

· None.

Environmental/ and or Physical Requirements:

· Government service location is 40 hours per week in an office setting. No heavy lifting requirements associated with this position. Although no heavy lifting is required, contractors are required to stand for long periods of time while facilitating two-day higher education track classes.
