BASIC FUNCTION:

Under the supervision of the Training Coordinator; enhances, conducts, certifies and teaches staff training programs to provide the optimum quality of life and level of independence for the individuals served.

DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reliable and prompt attendance as scheduled, demonstrating flexibility as necessary
  • Demonstrates knowledge of Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (IDPA), Illinois Department of Public Health, Department of Human Services and Department of Children and Family Services standards, providing training and feedback to staff on compliance with standards
  • Must be able to or have qualification as QIDP to allow for teaching new employee DSP classes by the State of Illinois.
  • Assists Training Coordinator in organizing the first two weeks of employment for new hire employees and is aware of their scheduled training classes (enters needed staff into Care Tracker if necessary). Coordinates their observation days on the designated homes for the new employees and follows up on any questions or concerns they may have. Send out monthly follow up reminder to staff when classes are due/missed by a DSP for completion of training
  • Promotes positive problem solving among professional staff, supervisors, nurses, and other personnel; maintaining acceptable standards of confidentiality and professional conduct
  • Ensures all the updates for paperwork are current and maintains copies of checklists, tests, addendums, training book, CD's are stocked and ready for each training sessions
  • Maintains a current certificate in DHS OIG Rule 50 training to be able to teach DSP Human Rights & Abuse Classes
  • Aware of the Direct Service Provider required curriculum regulated by the Department of Public Health, Department of Human Services check the web site monthly to ensure all material is current. Assists the Training Coordinator in evaluating proposed revisions and helps update classes to improve quality of all direct care training in keeping up with the requirements. Assists with data Entry of completed Classes/OJT's when not training classes. Acts upon staff feedback as appropriate, for more effective training on an ongoing basis
  • Is knowledgeable in the basic duties of all direct service providers at all locations and ensures that orientation and on-site training programs are effectively addressing the needs of the individuals served.
  • Completes certification to become a CPR and First Aid Instructor through the American Red Cross and maintained as needed. Ensure that CPR certificates are entered and printed on the Red Cross Saba and material is forwarded to the correct departments. Compile and send out the monthly CPR /FA memo to all staff listed.
  • Maintains the training file, organizing, and ensure accuracy of the material until DSP is completes and certifies. Assist the Training Coordinator in efficiently placing the certified DSP completed with their training on the Health care registry & sent to HR Department
  • Ensure that once the DSP is on the registry with DHS the billing process is completed to allow for correct DSP training reimbursement. Email the billing forms monthly to the HR VP and the Accounting Dept.
  • Assist with the company sponsored activities, seminars and outside seminars coming in and conducting on site trainings.
  • Presents, organizes, enter/tracks refresher courses and new in-services as necessary
  • Teaches supervisory skills classes for new supervisors (TL/HC)
  • In compliance with the Milestone philosophy and policies toward Human Rights, immediately intervenes on behalf of the individual(s) served and reports to the appropriate agency (OIG, DCFS, IDPH) and/or Supervisor.
  • Assist Training Coordinator with setting up the new hire Infinitec accounts, including the Campaigns. Assist with monitoring staff progress on Infinitec course work, paying close attention to time stamps. Assist Training Coordinator with closing out the completed Infinitec campaigns and entering the data into Sage. Record the Infinite modules on the Core Competency sheet and place in employee training file.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum age 21.
  • Must have a BA or BS in a related field
  • Must have at least of one year experience in field, including experience in program development and writing, staff supervision and training.
  • Demonstrates good oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrates good organizational skills including follow-up.
  • Must be able to intervene physically in behavior or health related crisis.
  • Must be able to promptly respond to any/all emergency situations.
