General Description

Responsible to construct, repair, renovate and maintain an assigned area of responsibility. Performs carpentry, masonry, plumbing, painting, electrical and other skills in accordance with standard practices of the trade.

The primary work schedule for this full-time position is Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM.

Starting Salary: $16.53 hourly plus benefit and retirement options; Pay Range $16.53 - $22.36 hourly. Pay Grade: 107U

EMERGENCY RESPONSE/RECOVERY ACTIVITIES
All employees will be required to work before, during, or after an emergency. During an emergency, employees may temporarily be assigned to work and perform duties outside the normal scope of their position, location, and work schedule to fit the needs of the County and its citizens. Emergency response duties may also include driving and/or operating a county vehicle or equipment and employees must obey all safety policies, and roadway rules and laws.

Essential Functions

  • Drives and/or operates a county vehicle or equipment and must obey all safety policies, and roadway rules and laws.
  • Performs carpentry tasks to include renovations and construction.
  • Builds forms for concrete; mixes, pours, and finishes concrete.
  • Repairs fencing, plumbing pipes and fixtures, including installation of supply and drain lines.
  • Performs HVAC system maintenance.
  • Assists with installation and repair of air conditioning units.
  • Performs electrical wiring installations and repair for receptacles and switches.
  • Paints interior and exterior of buildings, preparing surface.
  • Replaces and repairs roofs and walls.
  • Installs and repairs locks.
  • Moves and assembles furniture.
  • Lays sod, repairs water sprinklers, and performs other related outdoor duties.
  • Performs routine paperwork including, but not limited to, filling out work orders and writing up work summaries on assigned tablet.
  • Operates power tools such as sanders, circular saws and power drills, and machines such as forklifts, tractors, and ditch witches.
  • Performs work duties during an on-call rotation for nights and weekend work.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Requirements

Education, Training, and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • At least six (6) months experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registration, Skills
  • Valid Florida Driver License (or must obtain within 30 days of establishing residency in Florida).
  • Working knowledge of various power tools.
  • Requires ability to maintain courteous and effective relations with County staff, elected officials, community interest groups and the public.
  • Ability to work after normal business hours (including nights and weekends).
  • Must have or be able to obtain within 90 days certification in FEMA National Incident Management System (NIMS) courses:
    • IS-100.c: Introduction to the Incident Command System (ICS); and
    • IS-700.b: An Introduction to the National Incident Management System

Physical Requirements/Work Environment
  • Requires a combination of sitting, standing, and walking.
  • The job involves frequent lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, and occasionally more than 50 pounds.
  • The job requires frequent bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, balancing, twisting, and reaching above shoulders.
  • The job requires the completion of tasks that involves simple grasping, pushing, pulling, fine manual manipulation, typing, operating foot controls/levers, driving automotive equipment, and occasionally working in darkness and operating a manual transmission.
  • The job requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, depth perception and color vision, hearing, and speaking.
  • The job may risk exposure to adverse weather, moving machinery, fumes and gases, electrical hazards, unprotected heights, and extreme noise.

Supplemental Information

Summary of Benefits: Citrus County Board of County Commissioners provides a comprehensive benefit package. Employees are eligible to participate in the County's insurance plans if they are working a minimum of 30 hours per week in a benefit-eligible position. Coverage will become effective the first of the month following a 30-day waiting period. For example, an employee hired on April 10, the effective date of coverage will be on June 1.
