Overview
The Test Technology Engineer is a key contributor in all phases of development and testing for electrified vehicle components at Cummins. The engineer will develop and oversee complex testing operations to operate Cummins components or complete electrified assemblies in a laboratory environment for engineering evaluation. This role will require the candidate to design or specify all manner of test systems and hardware including high and low voltage electrical, plumbing, control systems and data acquisition.



Job Responsibilities:
  • The Test Technology Engineer will be responsible for overseeing and providing direction for the operation, maintenance and system upgrades to test vehicles and stationary test equipment
  • Independently lead complex or ambiguous projects related to either test facility or product test development and report status to project and/or leadership team
  • Overseeing and directing daily activities for technicians and engineers in the operation, inspection, service and repair of component test benches and Heavy-Duty electric vehicles via direct transfer of knowledge or written procedures
  • Subject Matter Expert for test equipment, instrumentation and methods as well as providing guidance and training for technicians and engineers
  • Work closely with engineering staff to assure products are performing as required and provide technical direction to project teams to support issues and guide decision making
  • Work in collaboration with product and controls engineers to create and develop test equipment and solutions for a variety of technical problems and validation requirements
  • Plan, design, manage and verify improvements to the test facilities as it relates to equipment technologies, quality processes, and compliance to environmental and safety regulations
  • Leads the development and documentation of internal testing procedures, operation and maintenance requirements of products and equipment
  • Define and maintain scope of projects as it relates to costs, resources and timing for capital equipment procurement and product development programs
  • Flexibility, initiative, and the willingness to respond to shifting time and project demands
  • Travel up to 15% depending on demand


Job Requirements:


QUALIFICATIONS
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 10 years experience in test lab, test cell or vehicle test operations
  • Prior experience as an Engineering Lead or Senior Engineer in a test environment or similar discipline
  • Demonstrated knowledge of test and process control equipment, I/O interfaces and various sensing methods, CAN connected devices and communication protocols, ECUs and data gathering methods
  • Proficiency with hand tools
  • Proficiency with basic Microsoft software products (Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Experience with 3D CAD design
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to review and identify safety related hazards related to test equipment and processes as well as recommend and apply methods or guarding to eliminate risks
  • Able to analyze and identify measurement errors or uncertainties of various sensing methods, make recommendations for improvement, and apply these recommendations to test and measurement methods
  • Use international test standards to interpret and define test methods, select test equipment and measurement requirements to meet product performance requirements
  • Ability to perceive high volumes of complicated, vague, or contradictory information in a neutral manner and reduce this information to make timely and data driven decisions
  • Work in a professional manner with leadership and peers inside and outside of the organization to build working relationships and effective communication channels
  • Deliver communications of project status, barriers, and results effectively through meetings and written documentation across all organizational levels while understanding the differences in content requirements for intended audiences
  • Ability to implement test equipment and assign resources to projects quickly and effectively while delivering quality results
The annual salary range for this position is 145,000 - 160,000 USD
