Team Teacher: Moves around to all classrooms throughout the day to support teaching staff and cover teacher absences.

The Teacher is responsible for developing a cohesive teaching team, coordinating the curriculum, and managing the day-to-day operational activities of the classroom. Teachers must understand children?s cognitive, social, emotional and physical development in order to ensure a safe and stimulating classroom environment where children are actively engaged and encouraged to succeed. The Teacher must be skilled in communicating with both children and adults in order to meet the needs of the children, effectively collaborate with co-teacher, and resolve parental concerns.

Duties
  • Coordinate and implement educational curriculum by modifying classroom activities based on developmentally appropriate practices and early learning standards.
  • Lead by example; encourage teaching team success through modeling and coaching.
  • Implement individual and group age-appropriate activities to actively engage children and encourage social, cognitive and emotional growth.
  • Maintain frequent communications with parents through informal discussions, progress reports, and parent-teacher conferences.
  • Ensure all center policies and state regulations are met.
  • Ensure a healthy classroom environment ? including maintaining appropriate hygiene and cleanliness standards and safety and security of children.
  • Maintain accurate records, forms and files.
  • Maintain a personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement.

Requirements

Job Requirements:

Teacher Qualified

  • At least twenty (20) years of age and meets one of the following qualifications:
  • At least a Vermont Early Childhood Career Ladder Level four (4) A or B Certificate; or
  • At least a bachelor degree from an accredited college with a major or concentration in Early Childhood, Child or Human Development, Elementary Education, Special Education with birth to eight (8) years of age focus, or Child and Family Services and at least twelve (12) months experience working with groups of children from grade three (3) or younger; or
  • At least a bachelor degree form an accredited college with at least successful completion of thirty (30) college credits with an early childhood or school age focus and at least twelve (12) months of experience working with groups of children from grade three (3) or younger; or
  • Hold at least a current Vermont Agency of Education teacher license with an endorsement in Early Childhood, Early Childhood Special Education or Elementary Education
Associate Teacher Qualified
  • A teacher associated is at least twenty (20) years of age, is a high school graduate or has completed a GED, and meets one (1) of the following qualifications:
  • At least a Vermont Early Childhood Career Ladder Level Three (3) Certificate; or
  • At least an associate degree from an accredited college with a major or concentration in Early Childhood, Child or Human Development, Elementary Education, or Child and Family Services and at least twelve (12) months experience working with groups of children from grade three (3) or younger; or
  • At least a Certificate of Completion form the Registered Child Care Apprenticeship Program; or
  • At least a Child Care Certificate from the Community College of Vermont and at least twelve (12) months experience working with groups of children from grade three (3) or younger; or
  • At least successful completion of twenty-one (21) college credits with an early childhood or school age focus and at least twelve (12) months experience working with groups of children from grade three (3) or younger.
Assistant Teacher Qualified
  • A teacher assistant is at least eighteen (18) years of age, is a high school graduate or has completed a GED, and meets one (1) of the following qualifications:
  • At least a Vermont Early Childhood Career Ladder Level One (1) or Two (2) Certificate; or
  • At least a current CDA (Child Development Associate) as at least twelve months experience working with groups of children from grade three (3) or younger; or
  • At least a State Board of Education approved Human Services Program Certificate that emphasized child development or early childhood education and at least twelve (12) months experience working with groups of children from grade three (3) of younger; or
  • At least successful completion of the Fundamentals of Early Childhood Professionals? course of the Vermont Afterschool Essentials Certificate and at least twelve (12) months experience working with groups of children from grade three (3) or younger; or
  • At least successful completion of a three (3) college credit course in child or human development or a three (3) college credit course from school age care and education and at least twelve (12) months experience working with groups of children from grade three (3) or younger.
Trainee Teacher Qualified:
  • A trainee is at least fifteen (15) years of age, able to comprehend basic written format, and meets one (1) of the following qualifications:
  • At least a high school graduate or has completed a GED and completes the Fundamentals of Early Childhood Professionals? course or the Vermont Afterschool Essentials Certificate within the first twelve (12) months of employment; or
  • At least a high school graduate or has completed a GED and successful competed of a three (3) college credit course in child or human development or in school age care and education with first twelves (12) months of employment; or
  • At least is enrolled in or has received a State Board of Education approved Human Services Program Certificate that emphases child development or early childhood education.

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required

  • Strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills.
  • High energy and the ability to collaborate with others (staff, children, and parents) and to foster a team environment.
  • A strong understanding of child development and developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Infant/child CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Child Abuse & Neglect Mandated Reporter certification.
  • Must clear a full background check and must pass a health screening.

Physical Requirements

  • Requirements include the ability to take frequent walks, use hands and fingers, handle objects, tools or controls, talk to and hear voices at many levels. May also be required to kneel, bend, squat or crawl.
  • A specific vision ability will be required including the ability to see up close and up to a certain distance, to see colors, have peripheral vision and depth perception.
