POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for leading and implementing the YMCA Summer Food Program, including meal preparation, delivery,
storing and ordering of meals and supplies, in collaboration with ServSafe. The nutritional component of is program is
best delivered by providing enrichment activities that encourage participation in the program, provide physical activity
consistent with HEPA standards, and reduce summer learning loss. The Summer Food Coordinator is to provide a
supportive, collaborative, and fun learning environment, appropriate for children typically aged 4-15. When working
with food, intentional safety and sanitary procedures must be considered, with licensing and food service regulations,
as set by the State of Wisconsin, being strictly adhered to.

Additionally, the incumbent should have a “frugal” knowledge and practice of shopping on a tight budget with
“seasonal” consumption in mind. The tight budget is also complicated by the Y’s desire to by organic and local
whenever possible. Over time, the incumbent in this position will find ways to include youth and even families in food
and/or food choices.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Lead the preparation and delivery of meals and snacks for 300-500 kids per day in accordance with program
requirements through the State of Wisconsin. Maintain paperwork to support reimbursements.

2. Timely menu planning, reporting, ordering, procurement and shopping for supplies necessary for effective
preparation.

3. Coordinate a scheduled activity for delivery sites that encourage participation in the summer food program.

4. Keep daily records of food production, meal deliveries, and serving sizes at each site.

5. Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards. Assist with kitchen set up,
organization, storage, and cleaning.

6. Outward support of healthy eating and living, good nutrition, posted menu and food served is also an essential
element of this position.

7. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse
prevention, and emergencies.

8. Performs other duties assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. 3-5 years of related equivalent experience required.
2. Previous experience working with children.
3. Kitchen/restaurant experience preferred.
4. Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
5. Complete New Employee Orientation within 30 days of your hire date.
6. Obtain a current CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers with First Aid Certificate.

a. This certificate is valid for two years and it is your responsibility to keep it up to date.
7. Complete Child Abuse Prevention Training within 30 days of your hire date.

a. This training is required annually throughout your employment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
1. Must be able to lift, carry and load equipment, furnishings, and program supplies (up to 50 pounds) and work

with kitchen basic equipment like knives, stove, can opener, dishwasher, etc.
2. The ability to be physically active, including running, jogging, and playing for 1-2 hours at a time is necessary.
