We are looking for a Spacecraft Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) Engineer with senior level experience across multiple GNC elements, including modeling and simulation, algorithm development, and software verification. The GNC engineering role is a technically oriented position that provides exposure to the entire GNC design chain, from architecture definition and hardware selection through spacecraft operations. An ideal candidate has a strong mathematical background that can be leveraged to understand the GNC problem space and identify, derive, implement and validate solutions that satisfy technical objectives. An emphasis on analytical skills, and using modeling and simulation to demonstrate design robustness, is critical.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, test and validate GNC flight software (FSW) algorithms including attitude determination, attitude guidance, orbit determination, momentum management, maneuver planning and fault protection.
  • Design, build, test and validate simulation models for GNC hardware sensors and actuators, vehicle dynamics, and the space environment.
  • Develop an integrated GNC simulation to support subsystem performance analyses and deployment of GNC FSW using MATLAB/Simulink and C/C++.
  • Perform functional and qualification testing of GNC FSW in model-in-the-loop (MIL), software-in-the-loop (SIL) and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) environments.
  • Develop tools that support analysis of different actuator and sensor configurations, mission performance predictions and on-orbit performance assessments.
  • Develop and maintain a simulation and algorithm development process, which includes modeling guidelines and testing strategies that support FSW generation and verification.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant STEM field (e.g. engineering, physics, mathematics, or computer science) with at least 5 years of experience.
  • Comfortable with a scripting language such as MATLAB or Python
  • Excellent communications skills, ability and desire to work collaboratively in a team environment, and willingness to learn new skills and technology.
  • Experience with GNC modeling and simulation, analysis, integration and test, and spacecraft operations.

Desired Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in aerospace, mechanical or electrical engineering is desired
  • Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink and C/C++.
  • Experience in GNC focus areas such as Kalman filtering, rigid-body dynamics, estimation and control theory, and perturbation modeling.
  • Experience deploying algorithms to embedded systems.
  • Experience utilizing collaboration software such as Confluence or Jira.
