Software Engineer Co-op - Orlando Job at General Dynamics Mission Systems, Inc
Basic Qualifications :
Ability to obtain a Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required. Responsibilities for this Position:
The selected candidate will work with collaborative teams on various technical projects associated with our core mission. The Engineering Co-op will be assigned a "buddy" to answer questions that arise daily and will work under the guidance of senior engineers. In addition to receiving a competitive wage, the selected candidate will enhance their skill set by working among a talented and technically accomplished group of colleagues.
Co-ops will also enjoy a flexible work environment where contributions are recognized and rewarded. GDMS supports a variety of work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. The selected candidate will work with their team to define a weekly schedule around their classes and may be eligible to work part of their schedule remotely. Co-ops are expected to work at least 16 hours each week throughout the year. GDMS offers flexibility for time off, midterms, final exams, and other conflicts as they arise with advance notice.

Candidates should demonstrate a thorough understanding of engineering technology. Engineering Interns must be enrolled in an accredited degree program in Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or other related scientific or technical discipline with a preference for a standing of a sophomore or higher.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:
Apply your classroom-learned skills to a program supporting the defense of our country. GDMS has an immediate opening for an Engineering Co-op to join our team. The position provides an opportunity to work on projects that support some of our nation’s fundamental defense services. GDMS employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

- Developing mission critical software solutions
- Applying object oriented design using languages such as JAVA and C++
- Developing embedded software
- Working on operating systems such as Windows and Linux
- Building code utilizing software development methodologies such as Agile
- Participating in all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle; design, code implementation, troubleshooting, integration, test, and systems operations
QUALIFICATIONS (PREFERRED):
- Currently enrolled in an accredited degree program pursing a Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related major
- Proficient in multiple software platforms
- Proficient with Microsoft Office
- Working knowledge in Windows or Linux OS Environments
- Coursework in object-oriented software design
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work in a collaborative and team-based environment
