Reporting to the Chief Maintenance, the Senior Mechanical Engineer is primarily accountable for providing and overseeing engineering support to both maintenance and operating groups. The incumbent is also responsible for providing direction, guidance and continuous improvement to our Reliability Centered Maintenance program. This role will suit those who are keen to apply their knowledge across a large multi-site organization and who have a strong background in reliability improvement and asset management strategies for rotating equipment.


Rotation will be an even rotation, 2 weeks on-site and 2 weeks off-site


Responsibilities
:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Provide engineering support and make recommendations to both maintenance and operating groups that will reduce costs and increase the availability of rotating equipment
  • Oversee and direct the Mechanical Engineers to consistently improve effectiveness of the group including the interaction with the operations and maintenance groups
  • Provide maintenance engineering expertise for the operation and conduct studies related to new or future developments or opportunities relevant to the Red Dog Mine
  • Protect the safety and health of employees by promoting safe working procedures and health programs in accordance with Company policy and appropriate regulations and ensure that all engineering services provided comply with environmental regulations and programs
  • Continuous development of a Reliability Centered Maintenance culture that will stay abreast of both industry and Teck best practices
  • Improve mechanical and maintenance systems and procedures by evaluating new technology and recommending implementation
  • Contribute to cost control by participating in annual budget preparation, monitoring and analyzing costs and explaining variances
  • Communicate effectively with operating groups and liaise with outside agencies to meet the operation’s overall objectives
  • Provide an effective engineering service and ensure maximum utilization of skills by selecting, developing and evaluating technical staff
  • The incumbent is aware of and has signed off on the Teck “Whistleblower Policy” and will promote and adhere to the company’s “Code of Ethics”
  • Provide project management services as required
  • Reinforce regulations and policies when applicable
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • Relieves for the Chief Engineer and/or Team Lead, Asset Integrity & Reliability when required
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Qualifications:

  • Must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical or related specialization)
  • Professional Engineer designation is preferred
  • Minimum of eight (8) years working in an industrial environment with strong knowledge of metallurgical / milling operations
  • Experience supervising or leading a team with Proven and exemplary leadership skills
  • Strong technical background with expert understanding of reliability engineering principles and development of maintenance strategies is required
  • Experience and facilitation of structured RCFA methodology, with demonstrated examples of how to resolve bad actors
  • Advanced understanding of machine dynamics and equipment maintenance in a plant environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience implementing new systems to improve existing technology
  • Experience with budgeting processes
  • Excellent computer skills, particularly spreadsheet, word processing and presentation applications
  • Advanced analytical, problem solving and decision making abilities
  • Superior interpersonal, organizational and communication
