The Work You Will Do:

The Oil and Gas Program is accepting applications for a full-time career service Professional Engineer III position. This position is a professional position that is responsible for supporting the department’s Oil & Gas Program regulatory activities.

Where You Will Work:

The Oil & Gas Program Office is located in Tallahassee, Florida. However, this position may reside in any of the three Oil and Gas Program office locations including Tallahassee, Jay, or Fort Myers Florida. You will be working primarily out of one of these offices. There is no state income tax for residents of Florida. Mission critical duties will occasionally require travel in a State-provided vehicle.

Pay:

Annual salary range is between $59,168.26 and $73,000.00 (commensurate with experience)


Your Specific Responsibilities:

  • Assisting in coordination of the day-to-day Oil & Gas Program regulatory activities
  • Reviewing oil and gas forms, driller’s log, geophysical well logs, well cuttings, sidewall cores, cores, core analysis reports, mud logs, and the non-interpreted geophysical data.
  • Inspect field operations for all work conducted under oil and gas permits by the Department.
  • For geophysical field operations using explosives, work with section engineer to monitor third-party observers and overall operator compliance with operating permit. For drilling and producing operations, work with field office to fill in inspection gaps that may occur due to manpower shortages, logistics, etc.
  • Provide professional engineer expertise to the Oil and Gas Program as a license Professional Engineer II.
  • Analyze data obtained from field work.
  • Evaluate the quality and reasonableness of the data, cross sections, structural contour maps, isopach maps, etc., submitted to the DEP to support an application for oil and gas related permits.
  • Advise and work cooperatively with other government agencies involved in petroleum and/or mineral regulation or research
  • Completing special work projects as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to collect, evaluate, analyze, and interpret scientific and technical data and prepare technical reports
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments, determine work priorities, and ensure completion of work assignments
  • Ability to solve problems and effectively make decisions
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to achieve specified goals
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in a courteous and professional manner
  • Ability to effectively operate a personal computer running Microsoft™ WindowsX® Operating System and using MS Word®, Excel®, Adobe Acrobat® and similar office software

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A current Professional Engineers License registered in the State of Florida
  • A valid driver license
  • Travel

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in an engineering related field.
  • Previous experience in the Oil and Gas industry
  • Experience reviewing and interpreting geophysical logs
  • Knowledge of, or prior experience in, the oil and gas industry
  • Mapping and data skills
  • Knowledge of state and local government environmental regulations
  • Knowledge of the Department’s Oil & Gas program and permitting process
  • Experience reviewing, and interpreting borehole diagrams figures
  • Experience in overseeing and reviewing Oil & Gas well construction techniques
