Position Description:

Brooks & Brooks Services is currently experiencing rapid growth and we are seeking an experienced Staff Accountant to join our accounting and finance team. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for assisting with the preparation of monthly financial analysis reports, developing and maintaining department budgets and generating cost reports. The successful candidate will also collect pertinent information for third party audits, oversee financial reporting and operations and will be the first point of contact for accounting issues. This position provides management with financial information by researching and analyzing accounts; preparing financial statements. maintain financial reports, records, and general ledgers; prepare and analyze budgets; and perform general bookkeeping. Responsibilities will include billing activities, such as accounts payable and accounts receivable.

  • Prepares consolidated internal and external financial statements by gathering and analyzing information from the general ledger system and from departments
  • Perform the full cycle of accounts payable and disbursements functions (ACH via online banking and checks) ensuring timely payments and accurate recordkeeping
  • Perform the full cycle of accounts receivable/billing, receipts functions ensuring timely processing, collections, and accurate recordkeeping
  • Maintain record of financial data, contract backlog, and bank borrowing base reports
  • Manage accounting schedules, perform bank reconciliation, payroll allocations, prepare and enter month-end closing entries, including allocation of job costs and recognition of revenue
  • Prepare and perform a preliminary review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, and job costing reports
  • Support annual insurance and union audits
  • Download, and prepare payroll data into Excel format for importing and union reporting
  • Review and reconcile daily bank activity; and maintain updated cash management/cash flow reports
  • Update and maintain the Accounting & Finance SOP to ensure all aspects of accounting are in compliance with established policies and procedures as well as Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Consolidate and review expense reports for employee reimbursements and corporate credit card transactions, and post vouchers to the accounting system
  • Provide support to streamline accounting processes and procedures to bring about process improvements
  • Maintain tax records (shareholder, corporate, personal property, sales & use) and process payments to municipalities
  • Monitor Microsoft Outlook mailbox and respond to emails timely
  • Process year-end 1099 forms
  • Answers accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data.
  • Keep all financial material & information confidential
  • Familiarity with union agreements and CBA's
  • Other special projects and tasks as assigned

Qualifications Summary:

  • 10+ years’ experience in Corporate accounting, Government contracting, and Job Costing
  • A Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or a Bachelor’s degree in business with emphasis in accounting, is required
  • Sage50 Accounting software experience required
  • Sage AP Automation/Beanworks experience preferred, but not required
  • UKG experience preferred, but not required
  • Must be highly skilled in Adobe, Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, and Excel
  • Understanding of accrual-based accounting and job costing
  • Detailed-oriented while working in a fast-paced environment
  • Be able to adapt quickly to change
  • Reconciliation of GL accounts and financial analytical skills
  • Ability to do research and work independently
  • Advanced knowledge of GAAP
  • Excellent problem-solving and time management skills
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented

This position may supervise employees.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to an indoor office setting with moderate noise.

Travel
Limited travel to various worksites may be required for audit purposes.
