It is located in the city of Newton, Iowa, county seat of Jasper County. Positioned on Interstate 80, the nation’s only east/west transcontinental interstate highway, Newton is about 30 miles east of the Des Moines metropolitan area, which has a population in excess of 400,000.

POSITION SUMMARY: The House Supervisor provides patient care clinical coordination 24-hours a day and serves as the on-site representative of nursing leadership, department directors and hospital administration during the off shifts and weekends. Provides nursing leadership, mentoring, feedback, and clinical support to nurses working on Med/Surg, OB, SCU, ER, and OR. Coordinates the clinical care of patients and ensures continuity of care by supervising operational aspects of patient care units in collaboration with department directors and Chief Nursing Officer.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Meets all basic requirements of the Medical/Surgical/Pediatric, ER, SCU and OB staff nurse (RN) positions.
  • Demonstrates exceptional leadership skills.
  • Demonstrates teamwork and the ability to participate effectively with other nursing leaders to meet Skiff Medical Center’s mission and organizational goals as part of the nursing leadership team.
  • Serves as a mentor and role model for nursing staff.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality for employee-related issues.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills.
  • Resolves conflict in a positive manner.
  • Able to use experience and education to make appropriate clinical prioritization decisions.
  • Makes proactive, cost-effective and safe resource allocation decisions, including shift-by-shift staffing decisions.
  • Provides overall management and coordination of all hospital departments on a shift-by-shift basis.
  • Coordinates clinical care and ensures continuity of patient care.
  • Serves as liaison between nursing and physicians when necessary.
  • Participates collaboratively with department director in evaluating staff performance.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in electronic documentation.
  • Holds staff accountable to organizational values, standards of practice and behavior.
  • Addresses formal complaints in a timely manner with a focus on service recovery.
  • Supports department directors and actively engages in quality assessment and performance improvement.
  • Attends leadership and other appropriate organizational meetings.

Qualifications


EDUCATION:
BSN (or other bachelor’s degree) or an equivalent combination of

education and experience. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.


EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of two years clinical experience as RN staff nurse. Experience in Med/Surg, ER, SCU and OB preferred.

LICENSURE:
Current unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse from the State of Iowa.


CLINICAL COMPETENCY:
Able to maintain basic nursing competency in Med/Surg, ER, OB, SCU in order to offer hands on support to nursing staff. Ability to interpret telemetry required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Able to manage resources and people effectively.
  • Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills.
  • Professional history of high-level clinical performance, judgment, prioritization and organization.
  • Overall behavior serves as a role model for nursing and other staff.
  • Understands and is able to apply the nursing process to patient care situations. Skilled in meeting the growth and development needs of infant, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric groups.
  • Possesses knowledge and understanding of cognitive, physical, emotional, and chronological maturation processes of these patient groups.
  • Functions well in emergency situations. Maintains BCLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC and NRP certifications.
  • Must be able to read, write and follow written and oral instructions in English.

Pay Range
$31.26 - $37.88 /hour
