About the Research Department

About the Team

The Government team plays a vital role in the service of Bridgewater's research process helping to perceive and build a deep understanding of economically significant themes in global policy and political economy, and to communicate these ideas internally and externally. The team's rigorous exploratory research helps drive Bridgewater's understanding of global policy developments and how these may impact markets and economies.

About the Role

As a Research Associate on the Government Team, you will further Bridgewater's understanding of key political economic developments in major markets (e.g., US, EU, China and Japan) and international economic relations that may impact economies, markets, and geopolitics.

You will drive the following responsibilities:

  • Build a deep understanding of the most pertinent political economic questions arising in major economies (with a skew towards the US) and within international economic relations (including geopolitical considerations), which are anchored in a rigorous study of the key variables informing economic policy.
  • Perceive, monitor, and analyze a fast moving, diverse set of political economic developments in major economies (w/US skew).
  • Develop into one of the firm's go-to analysts on political economic questions.
  • Help draft regular reports for the Chief Investment Officers, Senior Investment Leaders, and Bridgewater's Clients.
  • Collaborate within the government team and across the firm to further our understanding of economic policy in major economies and international economic relations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 4-year degree from an accredited undergraduate institution.
  • Demonstrated success conducting rigorous political economic research and producing excellent research reports, either in academia or professionally.
  • Demonstrated interest and work on political economic study of major economies, in particular, US, EU, and China

Physical Requirements

For most of our roles, Bridgewater offers remote work flexibility, with most employees required to work on campus as their principal work location, a minimum of two days (and in some cases three days) per week with the option to work offsite on other days.

Compensation Band:

  • The wage range for this role is $125,000 - $230,000 inclusive of base salary and discretionary target bonus. The expected base salary for this role is between 80% - 90% of this wage range.
