Job Purpose:

The Quality Assurance Manager works closely with production to ensure quality products. This position will oversee the activity of the quality assurance department and staff, developing, implementing, and maintaining a system of quality and reliability testing for the organizations products in accordance with Progress Rail contract requirements, standards, and best practices.

Education / Training:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.
  • Master’s degree preferred.

Key Job Elements:

  • Provides leadership and direction for QA team.
  • Troubleshoot issues and provide recommendations for resolutions.
  • Manage QMS to ensure facility and operations comply to standards.
  • Monitor daily QMS operations and communicate with key stakeholders regarding quality.
  • Work with design team to implement corrective actions and improve process and overall product.
  • Coordinate with supplier team to manage quality and responsible for vendor communication.
  • Directs inbound and outbound product process for compliance.
  • Performs and oversees process and procedures audits and conducts periodic quality training with employees.
  • Responsible for keeping precise instruments and gauges in compliance and calibrated.

Advanced duties and responsibilities:

  • Look for new ways to improve productivity and cut costs.
  • Understanding of AAR-M1003 standards and practices.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • 3 to 5 years leadership experience.
  • 5+ years’ experience managing a QMS.
  • Experience in auditing and equipment inspection preferred.
  • Experience with manufacturing and production processes and principles.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Must be self- motivated, driven by results and possess strong communication skills.
  • Must have a strong commitment and understanding of safety standards.
  • Qualified candidates must be able to read and decipher detailed specifications such as blueprints and customer specs.
  • Working knowledge of computer systems with a proficiency in Microsoft office.
  • Strong mathematical skills and the ability to read precision instruments and gauges.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience and understanding of locomotive repairs and inspections.
  • Must possess in depth knowledge of AAR, FRA and DOT rules and regulations.

Essential and Physical Activities Functions

  • Strength – Position requires lifting of 35lbs.
  • Motion – The position spends time in an office setting, at desk utilizing office equipment. The position will also require work on production floor, walking standing, stooping and bending.
  • Vision/Hearing Requirements –May spend long periods of time in front of computer screen. Will work with groups and in committees. Works with detailed policies and procedures.
  • Work Environment – Work in temperature-controlled environment in most situations. Occasional working outside in 0–100 degree F, High noise levels (above 85 decibels); Position requires constantly standing and walking; Exposure to dirt, dust and confined spaces. Must be capable of wearing PPE (safety glasses, hardhats, metatarsal boots, earplugs, gloves, etc.) No jewelry (on shop).
  • Emotional Demands – Must have good communications and conflict resolution skills.
  • Safety – Is not a safety sensitive position. Must be capable of following and adhering to safety policies and procedures and utilize all PPE.
