Assembly Windup Attendant, (winder/unwinder): Working at the beginning of the production line, loading raw material or at the end of the production line, rewinding and removing completed product.

  • The Winder Operator is responsible for packaging individual rolls of finished product, inspecting the packaging of those rolls, inspecting the overall quality and appearance of the sheet, ensuring that all necessary components outlined by the “Holcim Production Line Specification” are present, and operating the winder.
  • Winders must keep the Coater informed of any defects or quality problems noticed on the sheet.
  • Maintaining the correct operation of the palletizer.
  • Regularly reporting the weight and width of rolls to the Coater.
  • Making necessary adjustments to the winder as are required to maintain operation.
  • Informing the Packager of the presence of batch tags on pallets.
  • Identifying material as trash, scrap, second quality, or first quality and recording required information on the Winder Station Seconds & Scrap Report.
  • Checking proper operation of all winder safety systems such as the hourglass roller e-cords, the Triad light, and the emergency stop buttons.
  • The Winder Operator should maintain an adequate supply of packaging materials and must refill the winder with them as needed.
  • The Winder is to keep a record of batch number, thickness, weight, width, selvage, plyline, and splices.
  • Winder Operators are to remove all splices, tagged and untagged defects noticed on the sheet, damaged material, and second quality material from first quality rolls. They should also hold any questionable material aside until it can be inspected by the Quality Teammate.
  • Winders are ultimately responsible for the quality of the rolls that are packaged as first quality material as they are often the only associates who visually inspect each roll as it is produced. As such they must properly label each roll as it’s made as first or second quality.
  • Cleaning the pull roll and mandrel as the need arises.
  • Assist in relacing the line.
