Summary/Objective
The Plant Operations Manager provides leadership and direction in all areas of the plant including Product, Planning, Quality Assurance, Sanitation, Maintenance, Purchasing, Safety, Shipping, Receiving and Materials Controls. Responsible for coordination and communication of the operations forecast, including the identification of key financial operating risks and potential offsets. Support all strategic efforts to generate new sales and maintain the existing customer base.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for performance of plant operations focusing on cost, quality, safety, & employee environment.
  • Develop annual budget in conjunction with officers and plant leadership team.
  • Monitor and control departmental costs in comparison with budgetary objectives. Reviews detailed labor standards by cost center to support annual budgeting process.
  • Develop, and oversee manufacturing processes & equipment with assistance from management and support teams.
  • Guides department managers in the development of labor usage and continuous improvement strategies to better the utilize resources, reacting to changes in production demands and deadlines and effective communication.
  • Analyze equipment downtime and machine problems and work with leadership to resolve issues.
  • Collaborates with Maintenance and Engineering to coordinate and implement capital projects and maintenance activities, equipment process flows, optimization of plant layouts, coordination of shutdowns, and startups due to new production lines and equipment installations
  • Promote & enforce Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's), Hazard Analysis and Risk-Based Preventive Controls (HARPC), quality & sanitation standards, to ensure product quality & integrity.
  • Oversees the preparation of operational schedules and manufacturing activities to ensure that production and quality of products meet specifications.
  • Measure/focus on maximizing yields, productivity, controlling waste, labor efficiencies and monitoring spending.
  • Directs the overall activities of production to ensure customer orders are received, scheduled, and produced at the lowest possible cost to meet the customer's requirements while maintaining established safety and quality standards.
  • Foster a positive employee environment through consistent/fair practices and leadership in areas such as employee development, safety and training.
  • Actively monitors and supports the plant's safety process to insure a behavioral-based safe, hazard-free working environment for all employees.
  • Provides management of employees direction to ensure effective selection, retention, development, disciplinary action and performance management in partnership with Human Resources
  • Analyzes operations and key metrics to ensure that production maintains high quality and safety standards to continue to maintain our leadership position in the industry.
  • Ensures that Standard Operating Procedures are developed and maintained for all aspects of production process.
  • Supports research and development initiatives of new products processes, supports production runs, costing of labor, and scrap standards for new products.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has direct supervisory responsibilities.

Knowledge and Skills Requirements

  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture of products
  • Knowledge of employee safety, food safety and quality programs (HARPC, SQF)
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative management style to create an engaged, motivated and high performing team.
  • Ability to lead, influence and motivate a large workforce through interpersonal and teambuilding skills.
  • Ability to understand cost containment and budgetary principles.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends in support of plant operations.
  • Must be self-motivated, results oriented, possess high degree of initiative, and work well under pressure.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree or related discipline required.
  • 5+ years in a manufacturing environment with experience directing operations in a medium-to-large facility.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within and through organization using influence and client management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong organizational, communication (written & verbal), and persuasive skills
  • Ability to interpret a variety of technical information in mathematical and/or narrative form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Basic mathematical and statistical skills.
  • Basic financial skills and understanding

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with other staff.

Work is normally performed in a office/warehouse/production type atmosphere where the temperature may vary from cold to hot. The noise level in the work environment usually is loud in operating areas and quite in administrative offices. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, airborne particles, and hazardous chemicals. Employee should read the warning labels for information and instructions. Rizo Lopez maintains Safety Data Sheets (SDS) as required by law on hazardous products.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $120,000.00 - $158,707.68 per year
