Job Description: Athletics Coordinator, PE & Health Teacher, Mustangs Coach

Start Date: August 2023

Reports to: Assistant Head of School

Brief Description: The PE & Health Teacher, Mustangs Coach and Athletics Coordinator is a full-time, ten-month position.


PE Teacher 6, 7 & 8 Grades and Health Teacher 4, 5 & 6 Grades


  • Prepare and teach Physical Education Lessons in accordance with the BHMS curriculum and Montessori philosophy to 7 & 8 grade students
  • Along with the School Psychologist and other Faculty and Staff members, prepare and teach age-appropriate health and wellness lessons in accordance with the the BHMS curriculum
  • Maintain student records based on classroom observations with regard to attendance, growth, skills development and achievement
  • Prepare reports for parents in accordance with the established policies of BHMS, using the PE Report Writing Guidelines
  • Support PE department in UE, LE, and kindergarten classes as necessary


Mustangs Coach

  • Coach at least one Mustang sports seasons (Fall: soccer, volleyball, Winter: basketball, Spring: track & field)


Athletics Coordinator


  • Plan and run after school skills clinics
  • Set the game schedules every year, confirm busses for transportation, obtain field permits for home games, referees, and ordering and management of uniforms and Athletics supplies - COVID-19 permitting
  • Attend MSAL Meetings
  • Plan and coordinate events, including but not limited to: Field Day, Spirit Week, Mustangs events, pep rallies, and Homecoming
  • Work with the Director of Communications and Marketing and plan for communication around athletic events (newsletter, handbook, school announcements, social media, etc.)
  • Organize BHMS coaches meetings
  • Generate event requests for in-house sports events
  • Work with the School Nurse regarding yearly First Aid and CPR trainings for Athletics
  • Review and adhere to safety procedures and protocols for Athletics
  • Review and update the Athletics Handbook
  • Manage Red Emergency Backpacks for Athletics
  • Field and communicate parent concerns and actions taken to the Assistant Head of School
  • With the assistance of the Director of Finance and Operations and Assistant Head of School, oversee the program budget
  • Order athletic equipment and supplies. Maintain inventory of equipment and uniforms.
  • Maintain an organized and orderly environment in areas used for Athletics and instruction, specifically the Gym, Loft, Locker, and Storage areas


General Responsibilities

  • Attend and participate in evening presentations
  • Attend staff development days
  • Establish and maintain a positive and professional relationship with students, parents, and other teachers and school personnel
  • Prepare annual statement of goals and objectives for professional development and evaluation
  • Be in attendance at school in accordance with the times set forth in the letter of agreement
  • Attend and participate in regularly scheduled program-level, faculty, and faculty and staff meetings
  • Establish and maintain a positive and professional relationship with students, parents, and other teachers and school personnel
  • Comply with the established policies and procedures of Brooklyn Heights Montessori School as stated in the Faculty & Staff Handbook
  • Perform various reasonable tasks from time to time as requested by the Assistant Head of School, or Head of School
