On Call HH/HOS Nurse

Qualifications:

Educational/Degree: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.

Training/Licensure: Currently licensed as a registered nurse to practice in the state.

Knowledge/Skills/Ability: Ability to work independently, make accurate, and at times, quick judgements. Ability to supervise others appropriately. Ability to respond appropriately to crisis outside of a hospital setting. Acceptance of and adaptability to different social, racial, cultural and religious modes. Completes Home Health training program.

Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience as a registered nurse, preferred. Active patient contact within the past three years, preferred.

Ancora Home Health and Hospice has an open " ON-CALL" position to ensure that our patients receive the highest quality of care and that our case management staff can have time off in the evenings and weekends.

Location: Wasilla, AK

Requirements of this position:

  • This position traditionally is 7 days on and 7 days off throughout the year. The minimum requirement is 15 days a month that includes 2 weekends.
  • Variations of this 7 days on and off can be approved by the branch director. For example: The on-call position would like to work every Friday-Sunday but have Monday through Thursday off. This would result in full time status also due to the 24 hour nature of the weekend, this on-call person would have fulfilled its 15 days a month minimum.

It will be expected that the on-call fill all patient needs during the time. This will include medically necessary scheduled visits, prn visits, new admits and death calls.

Physical Requirements:

Requires considerable physical effort most of the day including kneeling, squatting, reaching, twisting, climbing, walking, exposure to temperature and humidity changes and maximal assist in lifting and/or transferring of a 100 pound patient. Must possess sight/hearing senses or use appropriate adaptive devices that will enable senses to function at a level required to meet essential duties of this position. Must provide evidence of annual TB test and other state required tests or examinations.

Mental Requirements:

Must be able to work independently, make judgments based on assessments and data available and act accordingly. Must be flexible, innovative and possess good interpersonal skills. Must be able to cope with mental and emotional stress and demonstrate emotional stability.

Working Conditions:

Be able to tolerate exposure to elements including, but not limited to, odors, blood, body fluids and excrements, adverse environmental conditions and hazardous materials.

Transportation:

Must have a current valid driver's license, auto liability and reliable transportation.

Essential Functions:

  • Regularly assesses and reassesses the nursing needs of the Home Health patient.
  • Provides dietary counseling.
  • Provides Home Health nursing services, treatments and preventative procedures.
  • Initiates nursing procedures appropriate for the patient's Home Health care and safety.
  • Observes signs and symptoms and reports to the physician and case management of any unexpected changes in the patient's physical and emotional condition.
  • Teaches, supervises and counsels the Home Health patient and family members about providing care for the patient.
  • Supervises and trains other nursing service personnel.
  • Develops and re-evaluates the patient/family care plan in conjunction with case conference to meet the needs and maintain continuity of care.
  • Performs specific nursing procedures as needed (e.g., treatments, management of symptoms) following doctor's orders.
  • Attends team conferences.
  • Maintains records as required by Home Health.
  • Follows the policies and procedures of Home Health. Observes confidentiality and safeguards all patient-related information in compliance with HIPPA regulations.
  • Always communicates to the supervisor if unable to meet a patient's needs or perform a procedure.
  • Participates in on-call system and is responsible for providing on-call coverage when unavailable for assigned duties.
  • Maintain skills and knowledge.

Compensation for this position:

  • This position will have a base compensation of $40,000 dollars a year. This to compensate for "on-call" time.
  • In addition to the on-call compensation, employees will receive a pay per unit for visits and admits that are completed in addition to being on call.
