Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Human Services Family Community Resource Center in Cook County is seeking to hire an Office Assistant for the West Suburban Office. Keyboards complex materials such as resumes for clients, weekly and monthly statistical reports, unit meeting minutes and vouchers for clients in training. Edits Authorization and Transmittal of Assistance Action forms received from casework staff. Conducts computer clearance for welfare savings due to client obtaining employment, receiving unemployment benefits or non-cooperation. Serves as receptionist. Keyboards a variety of forms, form letters, cards, and records. Issues new or replacement LINK cards to clients, maintains records of card numbers issued or voided, completes computerized transactions to communicate activation of card to Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) contractor. Maintains files of forms, reports, and supplies. Translates functions/procedures into Spanish for individuals who cannot speak, read, or write English, in contacts with the general public, advocacy groups, customers and community organizations.

Job Responsibilities

  • Translates functions/procedures into Spanish for individuals who cannot speak, read, or write English, in contacts with the general public, advocacy groups, customers and community organizations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of high school.
  • Requires one (1) year of related office experience.
  • Requires ability to keyboard 35wpm.
  • Requires the ability to speak, read and write Spanish at a colloquial skill level.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires ability to operate commonly used office equipment.
