Summary of Work


This position (08-5229) maintains front desk reception and office support services assisting clients, staff, and other members of the public who may be requesting or accessing a variety of financial assistance and social service programs available through the Burleigh County Human Service Zone. Customer focused responsibilities involve a variety of complex office support duties, analysis of data, and decision making based upon defined rules, regulations, and procedures.


Duties and Tasks

  • Provide customer service & support to the public regarding agency services and community service agencies.
  • Greet, screen, and direct a high volume of clients and community members to the appropriate staff members, service programs, or locations.
  • Receive and process phone calls, emails, documentation, applications, and payments; Scan, file, and distribute as required.
  • Review, input, and retrieve data from various databases and computer programs.
  • Prepare and process general correspondence; Process and distribute incoming and outgoing mail.
  • Organize and maintain office records, filing systems, records destruction, and general office procedures.
  • Operate and troubleshoot standard office equipment including computers, printers, scanners, copiers, multiline phone systems, and postage machines.
  • Assemble and distribute informational packets, applications, forms, reports, and other materials to the public.

Minimum Qualifications


Office Assistant III (SC002)

Requires a high school diploma or GED and two years of office support, clerical, or secretarial work experience. Coursework in a vocational office support or business program may substitute for one year of the work experience requirement if it provided the knowledge and skills required to perform the duties of the position.

Additional Requirements:

  • At the time of interview, applicants must submit three professional references. (A minimum of two references must be supervisory references.) Please include reference name, relation to applicant, and current telephone number.
  • Candidates must successfully complete a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) criminal history record check and fingerprinting.
  • Computer literacy and regular attendance is required. A high level of verbal and written communication skills are also required.
