Position Summary Information

Job Summary

The Museum Guard has primary responsibility for day-to-day security in the Faulconer Gallery space of the Grinnell College Museum of Art. S/he will have an understanding of museum security needs, including the safety of the art and of the museum visitors. A professional manner and strong customer service skills are essential. S/he will comply with Campus Safety standards. The Museum Guard will be a member of the Grinnell College Museum of Art team and will assist, as needed, with special events in and around the museum. The Museum Guard will work with student gallery guides and will interact with a diverse range of students, faculty, staff and visitors from around the globe. As needed, the Museum Guard will work with security systems in place in the museum and on campus.
Reports to the associate director.

Guards will work whenever the Museum is open (est. 44 weeks per year) on a weekly schedule to be determined (Saturday/Sunday preferred).

Grinnell College Museum of Art, within the Bucksbaum Center for the Arts, presents exhibitions of historical and contemporary art year-round, along with a robust schedule of programs for the campus and community. The Museum welcomes up to 15,000 visitors a year.

This position does not work enough hours to be benefits eligible.



Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma.
  • Experience in a security -related field preferred
