The GTeD Research and Innovation Center Microbiology Lab Scientist/Research Scientist is responsible for performing critical microbiological testing and results analysis supporting the product development process, in accordance with internal requirements. The Scientist/Research Scientist is also responsible for developing and maintaining strong interdepartmental partnerships with Research and Development teams in order to provide microbiological feedback on the development of new formulations following internal guidelines.
Responsibilities Include:
Perform microbiological testing and assessment of results in accordance with standard procedures including antimicrobial preservative efficacy testing, microbial limits testing, microbial challenge testing
Perform microbiological method suitability on new finished product formulas using traditional and rapid detection methodologies
Lead and support Global Category partnerships with the product development team in the area of personal care/oral care to ensure the Microbiological Approval Process is maintained for new and modified formulas, providing microbiological based recommendations on formulation challenges, analysis of results, ensuring proper technology transfer of microbiological methods from research and development to manufacturing, and interacting with regional microbiology leaders.
Maintain laboratory equipment by ensuring proper calibration, preventative maintenance, IQOQPQ, and cleaning activities are completed
Support the implementation and experimental analysis of new and rapid laboratory technology in a GMP environment
Participates in the microbiology laboratory standardization program including QA and QC, SOP revision program, overseeing media preparation, ordering supplies, supporting general laboratory compliance, etc.
Contributes to the continuous improvement of the Global Microbiology and Global Quality programs
Support environmental monitoring program, including sampling/testing of water, air and surfaces. Reporting, interpreting and trending data.
Complete failure investigations and properly document out of specification results
Maintain accurate, up-to-date and concise laboratory records following the principles of ALCOA
Support Global Microbiology databases and LIMS systems
Trains and verifies microbiology procedures for temporary and co-op employees
Assist temporary employees with daily tasks when needed
Supports and conducts laboratory training for microbiologists globally
Support GMP activities/validations on pilot plant scale up, as needed
Additional tasks, as needed
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Microbiology, or related field required
Master’s degree in Biology, Microbiology, or related field required
Minimum 2-3 years functional experience in a microbiology laboratory required; manufacturing/industry/research & development experience preferred
Demonstrates a strong understanding of microbiological testing procedures and laboratory processes
Working knowledge and practical experience with good manufacturing practices and ALCOA in a microbiology lab environment.
Ability to analyze data
Initiates and maintains effective and mutually supportive relationships with internal and external colleagues
Practices continuous improvement in all aspects of their job
Communicates clearly, concisely & effectively through written and oral means
Demonstrates the ability to apply continuous improvement tools to affect positive change (MSI, CPM, KPI etc.)
Experience with common microbiology lab instrumentation/equipment is a requirement, especially with autoclaves, incubators, air samplers, light microscope, micropipettes, biosafety cabinets and water purification system.
PhD in Biology, Microbiology, or related field preferred
Computer skills including Google Suite or MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint proficiency.
Salary Range $68,880 - $101,220 USD
Pay is based on several non discriminatory factors including but not limited to experience, education, skills and office location. In addition to your salary, Colgate-Palmolive offers a performance based bonus and competitive benefits package.
