JOB SUMMARY:

Provides support with the daily activities of a medical office including filing, telephone coverage, appointment scheduling, registration, and patient referrals. Position is responsible for clinical duties associated with pain management procedures, include taking medical histories and recording vital signs, explaining treatment procedures to patients, preparing patients for procedures, and assisting the physician during the procedure.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Prolonged sitting, standing, bending, stooping and stretching and/or walking.
  • Lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds as needed.
  • Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard, photocopier, fax machine, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment.
  • Normal range of hearing and vision to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate reports.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work is performed in a procedure setting, with contact with patients, office staff, physicians, etc.
  • Moderate noise, possible fumes, odors.
  • Exposure to blood/body fluid/tissue
  • Overtime as required.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Registers new patients in EMR system prior to scheduling appointment with correct demographic and insurance information.
  • Makes sure all initial consultations, pertinent notes, lab slips, radiology and pathology reports are available to the physician prior to patient arrival.
  • Prepares dressing room, procedure room and equipment for each new patient.
  • Greets patients and escorts them to dressing rooms.
  • Reviews patient history and updates as needed. Takes vitals and documents in Centricity/Athena. Performs urine toxicity screenings and pregnancy test if needed.
  • Answers telephone and either responds to inquiry, directs caller to appropriate personnel
  • Sets up for in-office injections including trigger point, bursa and occipital nerve blocks.
  • Gives I.M. injections.
  • Assists physician as needed during procedure; Monitors patient in recovery area.
  • Assures all facets of services are provided in a safe, professional and efficient manner.
  • Conducts reminder calls to patients for pain management procedures.
  • Ensures all activities of the department are performed in accordance with all company policies and procedures.
  • Tracks incoming imaging and reports for upcoming consultations/office visits.
  • Will be floating between 3 physicians in Pain Management pre/post op area.
  • Any other duties as assigned.

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Reports to work regularly without undue tardiness.
  • Maintains positive attitude and demonstrates the utmost in professionalism.
  • Dresses appropriately and professionally.
  • Works independently, without direct supervision.
  • Completes work accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Excellent oral, written & telephone communication, along with tact, diplomacy, and a strong customer service orientation.
  • Prioritizes work activities and receives and accepts multiple job duties.
  • Maintains effective working relationships with physicians, administration and other staff members.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Graduate of an accredited program in Medical Assisting.
  • 2 years experience in out- or in-patient pain management setting preferred.
