Your work environment at EXP

In this role, you will be a part of the MEP Mechanical, Science and Technology, Advanced Science team, of the U.S. Central Sector based in Chicago, Illinois office and have the opportunity to work on the have the opportunity to work on the designing HVAC and process systems for high tech market sectors including Pharmaceutical, Semi-Conductor, Industrial, laboratory, Research and Development and commercial manufacturing facility design. The role will require some national/international travel and project opportunities. Although you may not possess all the skills outlined in this posting. Discipline, self-motivation, passion, and strong work ethic will be paramount to your success in this very exciting and challenging field of design.

What a day at EXP has in store for you

  • Perform hands-on CAD using AutoCAD MEP and/or Revit platforms
  • Perform heating and cooling load calculations with industry software (Trace, Energy Pro, DOE)
  • Select and schedule equipment with oversight by senior staff
  • Basic Knowledge of Air Handling Systems and appropriate application based on building function/type
  • Basic knowledge of Hydronic heating and cooling systems. Including Chilled water, heating water,
  • General knowledge of steam systems medium and low-pressure systems
  • General knowledge Familiar with piping distribution design and pressure drop calculations
  • General knowledge with stainless steel and plastic pipe distribution systems for process systems application
  • General knowledge with Solvent and Acid scrubber exhaust system
  • Cleanroom design for critical environment research and manufacturing applications
  • General Knowledge of International mechanical, plumbing, fire protection and NFPA codes
  • General knowledge of cGMP best practices
  • General knowledge of chemical classification and its impact on building occupancy (I) Industrial and (H) Hazardous
  • General knowledge of Direct Digital Control (DDC) and Programmable Logic Controls (PLC) platforms
  • Understand fan and pump curves to properly select equipment for application
  • Communicate with equipment vendors to determine requirements for applying products
  • Perform field verification and take-offs of existing systems for renovation projects
  • Coordinate with other disciplines (mep, fp, arch, struct, etc) for HVAC details
  • Maintain the Engineering Calculation Book for projects
  • Understand work planning and manage design process to the available hours in work plan

What your experience looks like

  • 1 to 10 years of design experience in MEP consulting engineering of critical building such as Laboratories, Research and Development building, Hospitals, Pilot Plants technology development, critical buildings projects.
  • An Engineering Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering
  • Auto CAD, REVIT MEP familiar
  • Good Written and verbal communication
  • EIT and PE desired (you do not need to possess these but have a plan to complete your exams as part of your career growth plan)
