Job Description

Key Responsibilities:


  • Design, initiate, and manage extended day academic learning programming -
    Work in partnership with the School Leader Manager Team, the Instructional Leadership Team, and school leaders to create a vision for a rich and rigorous extended learning program. Design and monitor key performance indicators for participation and achievement.
    • Coordinate and plan for intervention practices with the instructional team focused on academic intervention in literacy and the humanities
    • Coordinate with school teams on ensuring students who need intervention and/or acceleration have ready access to programming in the extended day and/or within the school day
    • Ensure instructional practices employed in the extended day program are in sync with pedagogical practices employed during the school day
    • Monitor the effectiveness of the program though onsite monitoring, observations and feedback, and data analysis
    • Manage and monitor the project budget(s) and talent systems in conjunction with cross-functional finance team and talent team members.


  • Coordinate and liaise between the community and engagement team, school leader managers, team, and school leader teams to achieve greatest impact. This includes:


  • Coordinate on the implementation of enrichment programming -
    Work closely across functional areas and with school leaders to identify enrichment programming that will meet the needs and hopes of our school communities, and thus provide students with identity-affirming and identity-building experiences in the arts, STEM, community exploration, clubs, etc. Coordinate with the Community Engagement Team- support the design and monitoring of key performance indicators for successful programming and participation.


  • Ensure implementation of a high quality aftercare experience-
    Coordinate with the community engagement team on the partnership with our aftercare providers to ensure a high quality experience for our children and their families, as well as our partner aftercare providers. Work closely with school leaders and community partner leaders to forge productive, caring relationships that center our children. Manage and fulfill the OSSE regulations and requirements for onsite aftercare. Along with our community partners, design and monitor key performance indicators for successful programming.


  • Manage crisis situations & navigate conflict-
    Support community partners and school-based staff when urgent situations arise within our extended day programming, including coordinating with network teams, supporting stakeholder engagement, and facilitating communication, resolution, and follow-up.


  • Support great talent practices across the network
    - Provide talent development opportunities for staff and community partners to improve their practice and grow professionally and in their leadership.


  • Manage and support team member(s)-
  • Work closely with members of the Extended Learning and Enrichment Team to promote and deliver on our vision for great experiences for our students; collaborate with, coach, and support the Director of Out of School Enrichment
  • Problem-solve with team members on real-time technical and adaptive challenges
  • Provide team members with development, feedback, and support that equips them with the knowledge and skills for success that is anchored in key performance indicators.


  • Work in collaboration across functional teams
  • Work closely across functional teams (i.e. community engagement, operations, student information services, data & analytics, and talent) to advance the critical work of out of school time programming and build the systems required for longevity and sustained success.


The Managing Director of Extended Learning and Enrichment will have a deep passion for extending student learning and experience beyond the regular school day, a commitment to equity, and extensive leadership and instructional experience. They are excellent at building relationships with network leaders, school leaders, teachers, students and families. This individual will have a history of collaborating with diverse groups of stakeholders to achieve ambitious outcomes, an established track record of leading change management efforts, and an ability to influence others especially when no direct reporting relationship exists. The leader in this position will have expertise in navigating productive conflict and working through hurdles or barriers that may arise. Additionally, successful candidates will leverage interpretations data and excellent listening skills to shape their perspective and resulting programs and strategies.


Qualifications

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • At least 5 years experience in an instructional leadership capacity (e.g. Principal, Academic Team Leader) with a minimum of 8 years within a PK-12 setting
  • Experience leading teams of individuals and working across functional teams
  • Experience managing budgets
  • Ability to build relationships, impact & influence, and motivate action
  • Systems-orientation and thinking - someone who can build from scratch and bring a vision to life
  • Ability to view the work from a PK - 12 perspective, and the impact of PK-12 decisions on postsecondary outcomes for kids
  • Unquestioned integrity and commitment to KIPP DC’s mission and to advancing its anti-racist ambition through their work with staff, students, alumni, and families

Benefits and Compensation

KIPP DC offers an extremely competitive compensation and benefits package:

  • The anticipated starting salary for this position is $123,246-$152,245. At KIPP DC we strive for clarity, equity, and to be highly competitive. When determining salaries we look at benchmarks in the education and non-profit sector.
  • KIPP DC offers a robust benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurances; various voluntary benefits; and employer paid benefits such as short term disability, long term disability, life insurance, and a membership to One Medical.
  • KIPP DC also offers a 403(b) retirement account with a 3% employer contribution and a 3% match with vesting after three years.
  • Currently, individuals in this role have up to 15 paid time off days, up to 10 paid sick days, and 12 paid holidays. This is subject to change and your exact schedule will be shared in your offer letter.
  • As a headquarters team that is focused on being responsive to our schools and meeting the needs of our students and families, we approach our work in a way that reflects these priorities. Schools operate in person and our students and families rely on us for in-person support which requires this position to be fully on-site. This role is currently required to be on-site or in schools during regular work hours.
