  • Directly supervises and coordinates the HIM functions for the facility. Promotes teamwork within the HIM department.
  • Maintains working knowledge of all HIM functions so that if the need arises, can fill in as needed.
  • Plans, implements and supports proficient health information management systems and medical record keeping processes.

* Identifies and evaluates operational problems, troubleshoots and facilitates suitable solutions with employees and customers *Keeps abreast of new developments in the HIM field and communicates these to the appropriate staff, users, etc. Sets a tone of customer service through efficient HIM processes.

  • Ensures that the delinquent medical record processes is in accordance with the medical staff rules and regulation.
  • Assures compliance with all state, federal, The Joint Commission, CMS and other payer's requirements and communicates/educates the staff (both internal and external) when pertinent.
  • Reviews and updates policies and procedures and the training manual annually or sooner if changes/situation warrant
  • Recruits, interviews, hires, disciplines, coaches and develops HIM staff according to established guidelines and policies. Assures staff are performing in a productive manner. Ensures payroll is completed according to hospital policy.
  • Provides or facilitates the provision of orientation and on- the -job training as required for the personnel assigned to the HIM area as well as any other staff requires orientation to the HIM area. (Students, volunteers, nursing staff, etc)
  • Completes monthly reports as required. Uses monthly report to identify trends and any areas that may need to be addressed.
  • Participates in all hospital committees, task forces and meetings as appropriate or assigned.
  • Any and all other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum qualifications for a person in this position:

Bachelors or Associates Degree

  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
  • 1-2 years of coding experience
  • (2) years of previous progressive management experience in an HIM department setting, or other relevant experience. Prior management experience must include budget development, staff responsibilities, goal setting, quality improvement and project management.
  • Must maintain Continuing Education requirements to maintain a credential
