POSITION OVERVIEW

The grades 7 and 8 learning center teacher will serve as the special education liaison for students with a range of mild to moderate special needs in grades 7 and 8 at the Florida Ruffin Ridley School. The position begins immediately and ends at the end of the school year in mid-late June with an option to reapply for a full year position in the 2023-2024 school year. Some students will receive a significant amount of instruction in small group settings, while others will spend most or all of their day in the general education setting.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Planning and providing small group, specialized instruction in a range of areas, including reading, writing, and math. Please note that reading services will include systematic instruction in decoding.
  • Working with general education teachers to ensure appropriate accommodations and modifications are provided in the general education setting.
  • Working directly with students in the general education setting.
  • Fostering strong home/school communication.
  • Conducting academic testing for initial evaluations and reevaluations.
  • Writing IEPs (for annual reviews, initial evaluations and reevaluations).
  • Present evaluation reports and findings in IEP meetings.
  • Writing and presenting progress reports.

QUALIFICATIONS-REQUIRED:

  • Mass DESE certification in mild/moderate special needs
  • Current authorization to work in the United States by the first day of employment

QUALIFICATIONS-PREFERRED:

  • Certification in a systematic phonemic approach to reading instruction preferred.
