Highlights of the job


We are hiring a full time Line Locator I Position working out of our EPCOR Texas Gas office in Magnolia, TX.

Performs technical work of locating and marking underground EPCOR utility lines using paper/online maps, blueprints and electronic/RF locating technologies in diverse environments. This position is subject to callback, overtime and weekend/holiday emergency call outs and call duty.

What you’d be responsible for

Uses paper/online maps, blueprints and electronic/RF locating technologies to locate EPCOR utilities in City/County/State road right-of-ways and private easements, then marks location following EPCOR’s local office policy/program. Reviews and monitors the work of the contractors in reference to hitting or damaging mains or service lines. Responds to emergency calls for locating requests, from emergency work, line strikes, leaks, etc….. Contacts management for update information on new plans and visits construction sites of new mains and services to update the data. Organizes, prioritizes and routes the 811 (e.g. Blue Stake or One-Call) locate requests. Occasionally attends pre-construction conferences to exchange information or explain 811 policy. Performs other work as required.

What’s required to be successful

High school diploma or equivalent. Must possess and maintain a valid TX Driver’s license, Non-Commercial Class required.

Line Locator I requirements: One (1) year of related experience in line locating is preferred. Class D Water Distribution Operator license required within 6 months of employment.
Line Locating Qualification (EPCOR’s OQ Program – via On the Job Training), if gas system locator.

Ongoing knowledge of current 811 and line locating requirements, as outlined by Federal, State and Company regulations. Knowledge of water distribution and wastewater collection systems or natural gas distribution/transmission pipelines or utility construction methods, techniques and practices. knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions associated with working in traffic.


Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Ability to work independently with minimum supervision. Ability to read and interpret maps, blueprints and “as-built” plans. Computers skill to work with electronic maps and programs. Ability to deal effectively and courteously with private contractors and the general public.

This position is subject to callback, overtime and weekend/holiday emergency call outs and call duty. There are periods of continuous stooping, bending, walking, shoveling and sweeping. May be exposed to insects, animals, reptiles, dust, pollen, chemicals, water and sewage. Must be able to tolerate extreme heat.
