Some of what you'll be doing:

In this role, you will design and deliver an enterprise-wide strategy for growing leaders at the Port of Seattle who model public service and a commitment to equity and social justice as a member of the Port of Seattle’s Talent Management Team. You will collaborate with leaders across the organization to deliver programs built on the philosophy that all employees can lead.

  • You will work as a member of a group of learning designers and facilitators who provide a suite of programs that address employee onboarding, manager development, career, and leadership development, Talent Acquisition, and Emerging Talent.
  • You will be engaged in the overall design and implementation of a Port of Seattle Leadership Development Strategy. You will work across, up, and down the organization to build a leadership development strategy that addresses key goals and objectives, delivery, evaluation, and overall program management.
  • You will design and serve as lead instructor of leadership development programs including a well-established internal leadership development program, LINK Leadership. You will develop plans that identify the detailed scope of services, consulting, and other resources appropriate to accomplish desired program results, along with project timelines and milestones as needed, on time and on budget. You will also manage stakeholder relationships and contracts with vendors.
  • You will maintain and enhance existing programs’ focus on equity, the port's diverse and changing workforce, and the region we serve.
  • You will work with the port’s Office of Equity Diversity and Inclusion to develop port employees’ knowledge and skills.
  • You will partner with HR departments including Talent Acquisition, Emerging Talent, Strategic Business Partners, Total Rewards, and Employee Relations to identify and respond to workforce challenges and opportunities that arise.
  • You will work with Port of Seattle departments and teams to grow talent with a focus on development pipelines, increased employee engagement, and diversity.
Who you are:

Two years of experience may be substituted for one year of education:

  • Experienced – You have five (5) years’ demonstrated experience in learning/training development strategy, design, delivery, and instruction.
  • Desired – We hope you have a Bachelor’s degree in education, adult learning, behavioral science, organizational psychology, business, or related field. We also hope you have experience working in a context that is subject to federal, state, and local regulation as well as served audiences in different fields and professions including white collar professionals, administrative professionals, skilled trades people, and essential frontline workers.

  • Adult Learning Expert – You are an experienced instructor. You have a depth of knowledge of adult learning theory, assess learning needs, define learning/program objectives, and evaluate program impacts and have expertise in the needs of diverse learners.
  • Program Designer/Manager – You have expertise and skill in in-person and virtual curriculum design and delivery. You are able to take program from design to implementation.
  • Effective Communicator – You possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. You have an ability to establish a strong presence with executives and leaders at all levels by leveraging strategic and collaborative methods to convey messages.
What else you need to know :
  • Work Schedule – Your normal work schedule will be Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). Slightly more flexible start and end times are available in this role.
  • Work Environment – You will work in a hybrid remote/office work environment.
  • Washington State Residency Requirement – Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
  • COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement – Effective, November 15, 2021, the Port of Seattle will require that at the time of hire, and as a condition of employment, the successful candidate will be able to provide proof of their full COVID-19 vaccination status, as part of the hiring process. This is a condition of employment for all positions at the Port of Seattle. People are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after their second dose in a two-dose series or two weeks after a single-dose vaccine. Prior to employment, candidates may make requests for a reasonable accommodation based on a medical disability or for sincerely held religious beliefs. Philosophical, political, scientific, or sociological objections to vaccination will not be considered for an exemption or accommodation.
  • Security Requirements – As the successful candidate, you must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check as well as a criminal history background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Your employment will be contingent upon obtaining a Port of Seattle ID badge upon clearance.
