Description
The Department of Criminal Justice Training located in Richmond, Kentucky is currently seeking a Public Safety Telecommunications professional to provide instruction in telecommunications training to Law Enforcement Officers and Basic Training recruits from throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

This position offers the opportunity to work with officers of all ranks, starting with basic trainees, patrol officers, first-line supervisors, mid-level management and executive leaders.

Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Teach established lesson plans for Basic Training for Telecommunications.
  • Teach established lesson plans for Advanced Individual Training Telecommunications as required.
  • Coordinate visits by guest instructors, instructs trainees and coordinates their schedule.
  • Advise and counsel trainees to encourage professional development and improvement.
  • Develop instructional material and lesson plans.
  • Plans and utilizes materials, equipment, and training techniques.
  • Attend internal and external courses. Prepares and presents written and oral reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Law Enforcement Instructor (LEN) Development Course
  • 5 years of Telecommunications
  • Minimum 80 hours in-service training in Kentucky Law Enforcement Council (KLEC) recognized leadership courses for telecommunicators.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, video technology beneficial and Criminal Justice
  • Information System (CJIS).
  • Coordinator Course or Intermediate CJIS 20-Hour Course.
  • Full Access Certification CJIS Operator and/or 2 years’ experience as CJIS Operator.
Additional / Supplemental Information:
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Lift heavy objects or work in uncomfortable positions for extended periods of time.
  • Frequently communicate in person or by other means of technology.
  • Spend a major portion of time using a computer.
  • Travel required (state vehicle provided).

A background check is required. Final job offer is contingent upon successful completion of background investigation. In compliance with Commission of Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agency, a standard 5.28 physical exam will be required after initial offer of employment.
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Three years of experience in law enforcement telecommunications.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience in law enforcement telecommunications will substitute for the required college on a year-for-year basis.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE
Working Conditions
Work is typically performed in a classroom and/or stimulated training setting.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 12 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
