As the Junior Controller, in addition to bookkeeping, you will provide support and assistance to the Controller with the company's financial transactions and provide data and analysis. We believe that you will be successful in the Junior Controller role if you have:

  • 5+ years of professional progressive accounting experience preferred
  • Advanced accounting education or BA/BS degree in accounting or finance
  • Experience with credit card merchant accounts, business insurance renewals, Simple IRA programs, and employee benefit programs
  • Experience in AP, AR, Payroll, and all matters related to producing accurate, timely, and reliable financial information
  • Knowledge and experience reading and maintaining departmental income statements, overall income and balance sheet statements
  • Some knowledge and experience with indirect cost allocation by revenue, by cost, by labor hours
  • Proficient knowledge using accounting ERP software, Sage 50 is preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of fundamental operations of computers – Microsoft Word and Outlook, with proficiency in Excel having knowledge of advanced formulas and functions preferred
  • Experience in working within tight deadlines and ability to effectively multi-task

As the Junior Controller, your objectives:

Bookkeeping tasks:

  • Process A/P and maintain vendor relationships; process monthly and weekly billing; process credit card and ACH payments; make A/R calls for payment reminders, payment arrangements and billing inquiries; make new client initial calls for deposit requests and establishment of future payment methods.

Assist the Controller in the following:

  • Financial transactions including daily activities, tax reporting and payments, monthly allocations, and accruals; cash management; business insurance vendor management; prepare for internal accrual financial information reporting to outside Accountant for tax planning and filing, including Fixed Assets.

Advanced accounting responsibilities and growth opportunities available upon demonstrated role performance and successful achievements.

  • Detail oriented, organized, and a self-starter able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to carry out productive interactions with multiple stakeholders including clients and partners
  • Comfortable handling responsibilities beyond formal job duties
  • Excellent professional demeanor and strong verbal and written communication skills demonstrating accurate grammar and spelling during communication when writing emails, preparing documents, and speaking

A bonus if you have:

  • Knowledge and some experience with accrual accounting, job cost accounting, and management of posting periods is a plus
  • Willingness to take 12 hours of continuing education per year
  • Construction Financial Management Association (CMFA) membership
