Animal Control Officers work to maintain public health standards by making communities safe for both people and animals. Officers often respond to calls from citizens about stray animals, suspected criminal cruelty, or deceased animals. Sometimes officers have to capture or rescue animals. They are also called to put down injured animals when necessary. Officers administer warnings or citations to citizens suspected of animal cruelty or mistreatment. This is a weather essential position.

Job Requirements

A high school diploma or equivalent is required. An excellent driving record is required. It is preferred to have one year animal control officer experience, DART gun school (immobilization), and Animal Control School level 1. This position requires excessive standing and/or walking, exposure to extreme temperatures, exposure to fumes and/or chemicals, exposure to loud noises, and the ability to lift 100 pounds. Preferred experience with Midwest Snake Tongs, Tomahawk 4 foot catch pole, Marlin-PNEU Dart long gun, Sheridan-PNEU Dart hand gun, Pet Link pet chip detector.
