HVC Dismantler ($20/hr) Job at LKQ

The Dismantler is responsible for the efficient, safe, and careful removal of auto parts and usable cores.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Dismantle salvaged and wrecked vehicles for reusable parts, including HVC (High-Value Cores) and scrap metals within the suggested time constraints in a safety conscious manner, taking care not to damage valuable parts.
  • Inspect, check the quality of parts, label, prepare and sort materials or products for recycling or resale internally and externally
  • Must be able to use and maintain hand tools and designated equipment necessary to perform job duties.
  • Must be able to follow procedures regarding changing the status of cars, identifying cars requiring special handling, such as airbags and electric car batteries, moving to inventory, and generating required reports.
  • Assume other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prefer some firsthand automotive repair experience.
  • High school diploma or G.E.D preferred

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Must have a basic understanding of the function of each part of a vehicle
  • Experience using hand tools, and power tools, including saws, pneumatic wrenches, and car jacks
  • Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to operate the scanner, computer, and/or smartphone

Essential Physical Demands/Work Environment:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, push, pull, squat, bend, reach, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or sit for extended periods of time.
  • The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to seventy-five pounds occasionally
  • The employee may be exposed to hazardous situations, conditions, and equipment.
  • Must be able to work in cramped spaces or underneath vehicles that may require getting into awkward positions.
  • Will regularly wear personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • May be exposed to extreme temperatures and high noise levels.
  • Works with various vehicle fluids including hydraulic oils, motor oils, antifreeze, freon and fuel.
