The Department of Motor Vehicles is looking for an service-oriented professional to work in our busy Human Resource (HR) Office. The HR Assistant serves as a vital team member supporting the Talent Acquisition, Benefits, and Payroll teams by managing several functions within HR.

The successful candidate will be professional and courteous, exceptionally well organized, able to handle multiple priorities, be a team player with a can-do and how-can-I-help attitude, and demonstrated ability to meet deadlines with limited supervision.

Duties include:
  • Coordinate candidate fingerprinting for DMV employees and contractors
  • Create and maintain reports and spreadsheets
  • Manage security access badging and assist with parking
  • Handle telephone calls and mail services
  • Provide employment verifications
  • Manage front office operations as well as administrative operations
  • Coordinate meetings, assist with records management, assist HR Consultants with employment related tasks, and orders or maintains office supplies


DMV headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, serves approximately 6.2 million licensed drivers and ID card holders with over 8.4 million registered vehicles. In addition, DMV serves a wide array of businesses, including dealers, fuels tax customers, rental companies, driving schools, other state agencies, local governments, and non-profit organizations.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Customer service experience working in a fast-paced office environment
  • Serve as a resource for HR matters and communicate with employees in a courteous, professional, ethical, and friendly manner
  • Experience interpreting and explaining policy, procedures and processes required
  • Experience managing sensitive and confidential information and situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy at all times and ensures that information is kept confidential
  • Experience working collaboratively and as a team player with other members of the HR team and employees in other departments
  • Experience creating and maintaining spreadsheets, databases, and manual or automated record keeping systems
  • Strong organizational, time management, problem solving, and multitasking skills
  • Must have attention to detail, accuracy, and complete assignments on time
  • Requires advanced writing skills to create correspondence, memos, emails, and letters using correct grammar and punctuation

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in administrative support and recruitment functions
  • Bachelors in Business or related field
