Since our founding in 2001, Rescue has been exclusively focused on researching, developing, and implementing positive social change campaigns in public health. We provide research, strategy, creative, production, web, traditional media, social media, policy change, youth engagement and experiential marketing services to government, non-profit, and healthcare clients in over 25 states and provinces, as well as to federal government agencies.

Rescue’s health behavior change marketing campaigns focus on topics such as tobacco, obesity, substance and alcohol prevention; the promotion of exercise, eating healthy foods, early childhood development, and after school programs; and other topics that promote healthy living. Rescue’s behavior change campaigns focus on diverse populations within teen (13 - 17), young adult (18 - 26), and adult (18+) populations in both rural and urban areas, resulting in a wide variety of campaign styles and strategies.

The Job
We are looking for a dynamic, experienced Head of Creative to join our agency leadership team.

The ideal candidate has a deep background in creating marketing and advertising campaigns across many categories, personal experience working across various creative functions - ideation, design, video production and web, an informed perspective and cultural competence in working with diverse communities who we must listen to in order to bridge health disparities, a passion or curiosity for health and behavior change, be an inspired leader of high performing creative teams, and have an applied understanding of creative business operations.

This role may be at the Vice President or Sr. Vice President depending on the experiences and skills of the selected candidate.

The responsibilities of our new Head of Creative will include:

Team Leadership
  • Oversee and support Creative Department Leaders - Ideation, Design, Production and Web - who lead the creative process across the lifecycle of the creative work from conception to client presentation and approval through design, implementation, video production, and web;
  • Develop regular team, department and individual communication cadence and approach to keep teams informed, inspire creativity, and share departmental and agency updates;
  • Provide strategic campaign solutions to the company and our public health clients ranging across all types of creative and content types;
  • Lead assignment and refinement of creative duties across the team and communicate clear process, roles and responsibilities across internal teams including client service, strategy, media, and analytics serving as a cross-departmental leader;
  • Develop a professional development plan and career path across all creative team members and functions implementing creative workshops, elevating creative product, and improving workflow and understanding of various creative stages;
Creative Leadership
  • Ensure that the agency's creative output is polished, professional, aligns with the campaign strategy, and is reasonably likely to achieve the desired behavior change outcomes;
  • Ensure that the agency's campaigns are authentic and appeal to defined target audiences, which are often vulnerable and high-risk audiences, and typically different from commercial marketing audiences;
  • Leadership of creative projects ensuring organizational efficiency, team capacity and rightsizing creative effort for budget size while maintaining the creative quality, enhancing design capabilities, video production approach web development approach;
  • Lead creative development when necessary to meet client deadlines, accomplish last minute course corrections, etc;
  • Connect the dots between behavior change marketing, ideation, art direction and design to ensure cohesive, effective and efficient campaign development from start to finish;
  • Develop best practices to improve and level up writing skills, art direction, branding prowess and overall effectiveness across a broad range of behavior change marketing campaigns designed to change knowledge, policies and social norms.
Agency Collaboration
  • Partner with other Agency Leaders across health topics and departments to ensure creative is aligned with key health topic areas as well as informing and intersecting with Research, Strategy, Media and Analytics in the right way to deliver creative excellence and attention within budget parameters;
  • Work with Client Service leaders to optimize the creative deliverables workflow and presentation of ideas to clients with varying levels of complexity and sophistication;
  • Inspiring communication around behavior change creative philosophy, our approach to work, team management, and delivery of creative that both drives positive health behaviors and outcomes and connects emotionally to target audiences, clients and employees;
  • Work with Project Management to improve and optimize creative workflow across individuals and teams.
Business Planning
  • Ownership and understanding of creative budgeting, staff capacity management, deliverables costing and ways to navigate small, medium and large-scale budgets and timelines;
  • Ability to collaborate with client leaders to find solutions for unconventional projects;
  • Partnership with Project Management and Executive team to direct creative operations by streamlining and improving agency creative staff workflows, forecasting models, project management tools, and on-time and on-budget delivery of creative work.
  • Manage and oversee the creative departments budget for each client and across the agency delivering quarterly updates to key stakeholders including Executive team and Business Unit leaders for review and approval.
Required Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma/GED + 5 years relevant experience;
  • Experience across various creative functions including ideation, design, web development and video production within an agency or in-house creative environment; Understanding of business elements related to creative department management including budgeting and resourcing.
  • Lived or professional experience in understanding unique audiences including those experiencing low income or poverty, health disparities, trauma, food insecurity, chronic health concerns, and/or other health risk factors;
  • Topline understanding of the complexities in the equitable distribution of public health resources;

Status: Full-time
Pay Range: $125,000-$170,000 per year. Actual compensation is dependent upon a combination of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, level of education, and location.

COVID-19 Vaccine Mandate:
All employees hired must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to their first day of employment. This includes employees who telecommute and work remotely. For Pfizer or Moderna, that is two weeks after an employee has received the second dose in a 2-dose primary series. For Johnson and Johnson (J&J)/Janssen, that is two weeks after an employee has received a primary single-dose.

Physical Requirements:
Able to remain in a sitting position for prolonged periods of time and stoop, bend, reach, climb stairs, and move freely throughout the building for the performance of duties. Able to read from a computer or laptop monitor for several hours at a time including fonts of various sizes from a variety of sources. Able to travel nationwide as needed to meet with clients, coworkers, or attend meetings and seminars.
