As a member of the PDOH LT, the Product Development Oncology/Hematology Scientific Strategy and Insights Lead and team operate in support of the PDOH Leadership Team and actively contribute to the development and execution of PDOH strategy. Working with the PDOH LT, Mission Oncology Support Team (MOST), Disease Area Communities (DACs), late stage franchises, gRED, pRED, PHC, and Pharma Partnering, the incumbent will continuously assess the Oncology/Hematology internal asset portfolio and identify external assets that will further enable Roche to transform the lives of patients with cancer and blood disorders. The Product Development Oncology/Hematology Scientific Strategy and Insights and team will support prospective scientific search and evaluate of external innovation to address unmet needs through the following key responsibilities:

  • Working across the franchises and in collaboration with the Oncology Insights teams in the REDs, monitor the latest and emerging trends in hematology/oncology and gather and translate business, scientific, medical and patient insights to provide critical data and recommendations to the PDOH LT.

  • Identify and assess unmet patient needs in need of innovative solutions and, in conjunction with the PDOH LT, commission work to address these unmet needs.

  • Work in partnership with Pharma Partnering, PDOH leadership, late-stage franchises, DACs, and Oncology Insights teams in the REDs to search and evaluate external partnering opportunities and coordinate cross-Roche horizon scanning to identify high-impact, innovative business development that promotes Roche hematology/oncology strategic priorities and pipeline expansion.

  • Work in partnership with PHC and PDOH leadership to identify and develop innovative digital tools and therapies.

  • Work with the PDOH LT to identify other cross-franchise opportunities for innovative solutions in drug development and launch efforts to execute on the strategy.

  • Work with hematology/oncology teams and Early Development Units to identify and incorporate novel approaches and technologies and methods in clinical trial development and execution.

  • Collaborate with Translational Medicine and Data Science, and franchises to: i) build accessible and comprehensive databases incorporating biospecimen collection and clinical/pathologic, genomic, biomarker & imaging data and ii) innovative analytic methods for large-scale data mining to generate novel insights and initiatives.

  • Support the PDOH Leadership Team in shaping the PDOH strategy and portfolio discussions by jointly preparing with the LT a consolidated viewpoint from discovery to drug development, combining views from external innovation, competitive intelligence, and internal discovery, development, insights, and innovation, including: gRED, pRED, Partnering, PHC, Chugai, Spark, FMI, Flatiron, Roche Diagnostic, GPS, and other PD functions.

  • Coordinate and/or facilitate, as needed, intra-enterprise collaborations and internal insights gathering and sharing across the Research and Early Development Units, China Innovation Center of Roche, Chugai, Product Development, PHC, Global Product Strategy, Diagnostics and other Roche companies (including Foundation Medicine, Flatiron Health, Roche Diagnostics)

  • Line management of the Oncology/Hematology Insights team members

  • Report to Global Head of Oncology/Hematology Product Development


Key Qualifications:

  • PharmD, PhD or MD required

  • In-depth experience in drug development, business development, and/or pipeline strategy in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry;

  • Demonstrated understanding of oncology and hematology biology and treatment and appreciation of emerging innovations

  • Demonstrated ability to create strategic plans and lead development and execution of complex plans across multiple priorities;

  • VACC leader (Visionary-Architect-Catalyst-Coach) with demonstrated ability to lead and inspire teams and develop people;

  • Accountable for building global working capability and establishing clear success metrics;

  • Demonstrated ability to manage conflicts and ambiguity to drive clarity and deliver results·

  • Demonstrated knowledge of scientific communication development and execution
