Do you enjoy cooking for yourself and others? Do you have a passion for healthy, delicious food? If so, we are looking for you!

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of food preparation, food handling and a current Alaskan Food Handlers Permit (ADEC). Your environment will be remote so organization, meal creativity, food storage awareness and meal planning are necessary.

Details:

  • The camps are remotely located on the Denver Glacier in Skagway and the Mendenhall, Herbert and Norris Glaciers in Juneau.
  • The Camp Cook works independently, under the direction of the Camp Manager, preparing breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks according to camp schedule for a crew of 10-20 employees.
  • Camp Cook is responsible for kitchen operations, maintaining sufficient groceries in camp, and scheduling, ordering, and confirming grocery and kitchen re-supply with the Expediters.
  • Responsible for following the prepared meal plan. The Camp Cook delivers a well-balanced diet consisting of ‘meat and potato’ fare with plenty of fruits and vegetables, considering allergies, dietary requests, and camp preference.
  • Camp Cooks maintain 7-10 days of dedicated food supply in reserve and display menu flexibility, considering product on hand, re-supply considerations, and operational cost.

Kitchen Equipment:

2 propane stoves/ovens

Hand washing area

Kitchen tent

Refrigeration by using the cold temperatures on the glaciers

No running water- fresh water delivered by helicopter in 5 gallon containers

Hot water is heated on the accessory 2 burner stove

Kitchen gray water emptied in containers for transport off glacier


The kitchen is used by the crew throughout the day. Camp Cook provides a warm and inviting reprieve from daily operations, necessitating a positive attitude and restraint.

Camp Cook must possess Alaska Food Worker Card and always facilitate kitchen operations according to ADEC standards.

Requirements:

Must be able to lift 50lbs and be able to stand for extended periods of time.

Must be able to work legally in the U.S.

Valid CPR and 1st Aid

End of Season Bonus

Consumable recovery fee of $120/month

Position is seasonal and runs from the beginning of May through September.
