Summary

Michael Baker is a national leader in technology solutions supporting clients in local, regional, state, and national government to solve complex problems with advanced technologies for the 21st century. This position would be directly supporting the firm’s nationwide geospatial practice within Michael Baker’s Consulting and Technology Solutions (CTS) team, which includes GIS; DATAMARK, the public safety GIS arm of Michael Baker; Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR); Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), Broadband Mapping, and Pavement Technologies. The CTS team is comprised of nearly 200 technology experts focusing on technology differentiation and innovation to support Michael Baker’s growth initiatives.

Michael Baker’s geospatial practice covers a large breadth of GIS projects, mostly in the areas of data maintenance, enterprise GIS, managed services, and cloud solutions. Our team is spread across the country, many of whom work from home, so communication and accessibility from and to this position are essential to success in this role. We also provide support to the infrastructure and federal verticals within Michael Baker. Our geospatial team is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated GIS Specialist for its fast-growing CTS team to play a critical role helping to manage and execute a wide variety of projects. Articulate, concise, and consistent communication is essential for working with leadership and with project staff to outline workplans, assign duties, responsibilities, and quality control.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work directly with the Geospatial Project Managers and Technical Managers and assist in various aspects on numerous GIS projects.
  • Self-starter and able to manage multiple tasks concurrently, and d elegate tasks on the project to employees best positioned to complete them and monitor their progress.
  • Direct and coordinate activities of GIS personnel to ensure the tasks progress correctly and on schedule.
  • Provide feedback and recommendations from clients to the team to continually advance and progress our practice.
  • Perform quality control procedures on deliverables.
  • Perform complex analysis to support project objectives. Provide technical guidance to client or other project personnel
  • Prepare and present technical and program information to team members, management, and clients
  • Assist with proposal development and new work added research

Qualifications

  • Possess a proficient understanding and a willingness to train on many aspects of GIS and Esri technology
  • Proven experience with ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and ArcGIS Dashboards.
  • Experience in administering / configuring / implementing / customizing Portal and/or ArcGIS Online
  • Experience having successfully served as a GIS task lead with minimal oversight, and a proven ability to prioritize multiple tasks while meeting deadlines.
  • Other essential skills include creative problem-solving, organizational skills, and a solid understanding of GIS projects, processes, and execution.
  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively with teams across the nation is essential.
  • Self-motivated to stay informed on geospatial technology advancements and desire to learn cross discipline skill sets.
  • Technical writing experience and interest is a plus to assist us in developing content for proposals and marketing material
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills are essential – able to verbally present GIS practices, concepts, and custom software to clients and potential clients
  • Proven work history, strong work ethic and team-player attitude
  • GISP preferred but not required

Other Requirements

  • Remote working is allowable within the lower 48 states. Western time zone is preferred but not required.
  • Minimal travel is expected – less than 10%.

Experience

  • 8+ years related and relevant experience

Education

  • Four-year or advanced degree in geography, GIS, public safety, natural sciences, planning, computer science, or related field.

Compensation

The range for this role is $70,000-85,000. This will be dependent on the skills of the incoming candidate.

THIS POSITION IS 100% REMOTE, with a strong preference for someone located in Nevada or Alaska.
