Position: Direct Support Professional – Social Services
Location: Columbia Heights, Minnesota
Wage: $20.50/hour
Schedule: Saturday and Sunday 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM (with the option of every other weekend if preferred)

Job Summary:
We are looking for people to join our team working with a teenager who has a diagnosis of Angelman’s Disease, Global Developmental Delay, Communication Disorder, and Sensory Integration Dysfunction who lives his family’s home in Columbia Heights. The position will be working both in his home and in the community with him on a variety of outcomes. As a
Direct Support Professional (DSP) you will be helping work on a variety of goals to increase independence. These may include as coping skills, academic skills, community outings, personal hygiene, shopping, and community safety.
You will be working 1:1 with this individual and should be comfortable with a wide variety of different activities, including physical fitness. During the shifts, his parent may be home, but it is expected that you would be engaged with the child and be the primarily caregiver at this time. You should be motivated to find creative activities at home to work on with the child. Staff should have experience working with intellectual disabilities and be able to follow the schedule and routine, including a sensory routine/tasks, for the individual. Staff should feel comfortable working with appropriate behavioral guidance techniques and be able to use redirection and prompts to help the individual with accomplishing tasks. Staff will be assisting with personal cares for this individual as well as other tasks that focus on life skills in addition to his tailored outcomes. There will be instances of physical aggression, property destruction and verbal aggressions. Staff must have experience working with these types of behaviors and behavioral management plans.
Staff will be using their own vehicles to transport persons. Meridian Services reimburses staff .48 cents per mile when transporting persons served.
Requirements:
- To be at least 18 years of age for employment within the In-Home Program
- Excellent boundaries
- Experience with emergency use of manual restraints
- Comfortable with personal cares
- Experience with using behavioral management or guidance plans
- Experience working with someone with limited verbal skills
- Experience working in the social service field preferably in a group home or In-Home Services
- Experience with Intellectual Disabilities
- Experience with physical and verbal aggressions.
- Experience working with sensory diets/routines and tasks
- Have a vehicle with current car insurance and have an acceptable driving record as determined by Meridian Services policy.
- Successful clearance from a DHS background Study
