General Summary

Works under the general supervision of the Senior Program Manager. Is responsible for the overall preparation of a wide variety of foods such as vegetables, fruits, meats, soups, salads, and cereals by means of approved recipes using a full range of cooking methods according to specified food handling procedures and to Federal/State performance standards; planning, coordinating and implementing recreational, social, and cultural art activities; prepare meals for seniors in the absence of the cook; provides transportation; and prepares and maintains monthly activities and statistical service reports to the NM State Long Term & Aging Department and Title VI Programs. Has direct oversight of all senior program services, and approval of monthly menus.

Job Duties:

· Preparation and serving of meals for seniors with special dietary needs as prescribed by health care provider.

· Season and prepare a wide variety of foods such as vegetables, fruits, meats, soups, salads, and cereals in accordance of prescribed recipes.

· Slice, grind, and cook meats, vegetables, using a full range of cooking methods. Test foods for quality.

· Operate food preparation equipment and machinery.

· Follow all proper cleaning and sanitation requirements.

· Maintain professional hygiene and appearance.

· Abide by all departmental and Tribal policies and procedures

· Ensure safety and well-being of individuals

· Prepare and provide monthly activities and statistical reports to the NM State Long Term and Aging Department, Title VI, and the Tribal Nutritionist

· Provide transportation services to ensure convenient and safe transportation to and from the senior center, and for everyday errands.

· Work with other Departments (CHR, Social Services and Fitness) to provide health promotion and disease prevention activities and recreational respite care programming

· Provide services to home bound participants when needed

· Attend all scheduled meeting and trainings

· Contact community members to encourage participation in Senior Program Activities

· Complete inventory of food, supplies, and equipment on weekly basis and keep up-to-date record

· Ensure that the food, refrigerator, freezer, and dry storage temperature logs are recorded and maintained on daily basis

· Coordinate fundraising activities

· Must maintain and provide the following:

1. Daily sign-in-sheet

2. Mileage report

3. Transportation and assisted transportation reports

4. Monthly activity calendar and activity reports

5. Information and referrals

6. An up-to-date filing system to include but not limited to tracking financial paperwork such as purchase orders, requisitions, travel documents, etc.

· Provide timely, complete, legible, and accurate documentation of all activities

· Other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

· Ability to follow written and oral instruction

· Knowledge of administration and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records management etc.

  • Ability to maintain data and modify educational programs to be consistent with the cultural requirements

· Ability to prepare health meals plans and calendars

· Knowledge of Nutrition and portion control

· Ability to input data into a computer

· Ability to work well with others consistently

· Knowledge of food health and safety temperatures, dates and storing of food.

· Knowledge of various cooking procedures and methods (grilling, baking, boiling etc.)

· Ability to follow all sanitation procedures.

· Ability to work in a team.

· Very good communication skills.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

· Have High school graduate diploma or GED

· Minimum of one year experience working with special needs people or related field.

· Must possess a food handler’s certification or willing to obtain certification within specific time frame.

· Must have CPR/First Aid certification or be willing to get certified

· Must possess a valid New Mexico driver’s license and be insurable under the pueblos insurance.

· Pass background and drug screening

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $14.00 - $17.00 per hour
