The Department of Medicine's Division of General, Geriatric, Palliative, and Hospital Medicine at the University of Virginia seeks a Finance Associate to join our expanding team of finance professionals. Reporting to the Finance Administrator, responsibilities include decision-making regarding all daily financial activities and ensuring the division’s financial practices comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Perform monthly review of all summary financial data, identifying and resolving discrepancies in operational accounts, including budget variances.
  • Maintain financial records for department funds following University and departmental policies and procedures, and maintain all documentation and records to meet audit requirements.
  • Prepare purchase orders and payment vouchers. Pay bills promptly so the department complies with the University's prompt pay requirements, and resolve any discrepancies with vendors as needed.
  • Conduct monthly financial reconciliations, including labor scheduling and other accounting transactions.
  • Ensure the Division maximizes revenues and minimizes costs by notifying Division leadership of concerns and recommended actions.
  • Serve as a key member of the Division’s budgeting team.
  • Attend standing meetings and training sessions as needed to keep apprised of changes in policy and procedures.
  • Meet quarterly with Division Leadership to review and answer questions regarding financial reports.
  • Work with financial staff on special projects as needed.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.


Hybrid work option available for up to two days a week.

Qualified candidates must have:

Education: High School Degree is required and a Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.
Experience: Two to three years of increasingly responsible finance experience is preferred. Bachelor's degree in a finance-related field may substitute for experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
